taxi from FRA to DUS

Hi there,

with the current mess at FRA and most intra-German/European flights being cancelled and the Bahn having major issues too, I was just wondering:

How much would a taxi be from FRA airport to DUS? (on Dec. 24, arriving at 7a.m.)

Distance is roughly 220km, regular charge per km within FRA is about 1.40€/km, so I´d probably try to negotiate a flat rate of 200€ and find another pax going in the same direction to split the cost.

Is this realistic? Any personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thank´s!

Why not do a train? More reliable as roads aren't quite the factor. Train ride from FRA to DUS is can be as easy as 1 transfer and take 2 hours.

I´ve already booked the ICE, but it seems taking the train may be a nightmare in the coming days, so I was just wondering whether anyone had any personal experience.

For instance, a refundable train ticket on the ICE is about 70€/120€ in Coach/First Class (and I´m pretty sure Coach Class would be hell in the coming days), if I ran into another pax heading in the same direction, it may be more convenient to take a taxi (especially as I have a bunch of luggage).

I´ve usually been able to negotiate a 30%-40% discount if I go to back of a long line and tell the driver I won´t need a receipt, but I don´t have any experience with such a long ride.

Long distances can be quite expensive per km as the driver needs to return likely without a passenger.

Regular price should be around 320€. But I guess that you should be able to get a taxi for 200€. No guarantees though. If you happen to have some phone numbers from drivers who have driven you before, it might make sense to contact them early on and ask them whether they would do it for this amount of money.

Save you money and take the train. The roads are more likely to be be blocked by snow, ice or street blocking trucks. The later one is currently in most cases the reason for autobahn blocks during these days. You easily can spend a day or night in the middle of nowhere on the autobahn and experience some freezing adventure.

Thank´s for the feedback! I was just considering my options..

I´m pretty familiar with Germany, but am currently abroad and planning to travel to Germany over X-Mas.

So the consensus is that while all means of transporation are a mess, the train is still the most reliable option at the moment?

I´m just surprised because taking a train usually is quite a mess during the holidays without the weather, and the Bahn is encouraging people to NOT take the train during the coming days on their website due to the weather.

Quite true. But the tricky part is to figure out if your alternatives are really better. There is probably more snow due for Friday, December 24.

Looking at the webpages of the ADAC (I hope you understand some German):

I would take the train. It might not be in time and you should double the travel time to about 3 hours, but this is by far better than beeing on the road and the main highway (Autobahn A 3) is going to Westerwald and has some hills. Especially in the last days, parts of this A 3 have been closed, too. The alternative roads are not really better.

If you can get a ticket, I would take the train. Much mroe likely to make it than a taxi/traffic!

The Deutsche Bahn track FRA-Cologne-Düsseldorf should be up and running today. Due to the fact the major connection between Berlin and Hannover was closed this morning because of ice there will be probably system wide delays.
