Travel from Nuremberg to Paris help..
Our Viking River Cruise ends in Nuremberg Germany on April 23, 2011 and I need suggestions on recommended travel ways to get to Paris. Should we just try to buy 90 days ahead of time the fastest train seats available? Any discounts out there for the train first class seats? Anything we should try to see along the way to Paris? We have 4 nights in Paris leaving for home on the 27th of April........Thanks for all helpful comments........Ricky

You have three ways to get from Nürnberg to Paris:
Flying Taking the train Driving You have to decide yourself what you want. Discounts for 1st clas are available but to be honest 2nd class on Geman trains especially ICEs are good enough. Just make sure you have seat reservations (when you buy the train tickets you will be asked if you want seat reservations or not) Seat reservations are not mandatory but recommended. |
Driving is the last thing I would not do. To expensive, burdensome and quite a long way. My proposal: Stay the night in Nuremberg, the city is quite nice and worthwhile a visit and you do not need to drive. From Nuremberg you can easily book an AF return for the 2030 flight on April 24 (forget about the return) for about 90 Euro to Paris or you decide to go via Berlin (and stay a night there) on Air Berlin for about 120 Euro.
The 2nd class on DB trains might be caspritz78's proposal, but it is not mine. The peace and the quiteness in a first class coach (plus the extra space) is to my belief certainly a good investment of the little surcharge for "Sparpreis 1st class" - you normally do not need a reservation on a Sunday in First Class, this makes the price difference even smaller. |
Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Can you tell me if looking out of this fast train that there may be things that are worth seeing that justify taking this option?..... Is the airport very far or difficult to get to from where the river cruises are?....Wow, what a reduction in airline ticket costs by buying the round trip ticket.
Thanks again. |
The Nürnberg Airport is quite close to downtown, and is in fact only a 20 minute or so ride from the main train station via U-bahn. I can't help you with the boat as I am not familiar with the location of the dock, but I'd imagine it is close to either a train, U-bahn or Streetcar station.
