16+ hrs transit in Frankfurt. Pls help make my stay comfortable.

I redeemed 65,000 United miles for a RT flight from Boston to Jakarta, Indonesia on Lufthansa. I will have a 16 hr transit in Frankfurt. Looking for advice from those who are familiar with the airport. I have no status with United.

My plan so far:

1. LH423 BOS-FRA. Arrive in Frankfurt at 5:30am, Terminal 1, gate B.
2. Get a cup of coffee and relax for a couple of hours at Lufthansa Welcome Lounge - located immediately behind the baggage claim area.
2. Leave my carry-on luggage at the Luggage Storage service nearby

3. Buy a Frankfurt Card, also at Terminal 1, gate B. Go sightseeing for a few hours.

4. Return to the airport around 6pm.
5. Retrieve my carry-on at Terminal 1
6. Go to Terminal 2 for my next flight, LH778 FRA-SIN-CGK departing at 10:10pm

From the airport map, I see that Sheraton Hotel is attached to the airport. I’m tempted, but I don’t think it’s worth it to book a room just for a few hours of nap.

What do you think?

Frankfurt has a bunch of museums on the river. You can also easily visit Wiesbaden, Mainz, or Heidelberg, depending on your interests.

No 2 does not work. No access to the Welcome Lounge on a Y ticket.

As I recall there's a casino in one of the terminals, if that's your thing... Browse the sex shop outside arrivals for half an hour then go to the nearby pub (sounds like a real den of sin...) The airport itself is pleasant.

Plan to get the train into town sounds good.

The airport departure lounge has showers - ask around - ~ 8 euros, towel and soap provided (at least it did last time I was there a couple of years ago)

If I were going to be making two longhaul flights in Y, I'd give serious consideration to the day room at the Sheraton. The standard day rate (08:00 until 18:00) is €139,- (VAT included).

In calculating the cost, keep in mind that you'll save the €8 you would have spent on checking the carry-on at the Left Luggage office. You'll be able to have a long sleep and a refreshing shower before continuing your journey.

Mod, thx for moving my post to the correct forum.

Truly appreciate the responses:
- Frankfurt Card offers 50% discount to museums. So I will def visit a couple.
- Thanks for the info on Welcome Lounge not accessible for Y ticket.
- €16 for shower & luggage storage. I'm now seriously considering a hotel room (will check Sheraton & priceline hotels).

The Sheraton is quite nice, convenient and also premium priced. It is generally possible to get a day room in Mainz for EUR 50 (30 min train ride away) and gives the option to walk around in a real town (with some great attractions such as the Guthenberg museum). Weisbaden etc. would cost more for the hotel (being a more upscale town). Near the airport you can usually get a day room in the EUR 50-70 range but it will need a shuttle or taxi -- better to take the train to a real town imho. Having done this trip a few times (but with access to the FCT) I can second the suggestion of having a day room and some sleep -- the 2nd flight will be a lot harder than the first!

Thank you. I searched older posts on this topic and found several helpful threads. I will check hotels rates on http://www.between9and5.com/.

All Lufthansa flights leave from Terminal 1.

Double-checked departure info for the next flight and it's scheduled to depart from B44. So you're right, thanks!
