What to see and do in Berlin during Easter

Hi

I'm going to Berlin during Easter and I look forward to that of course :-) I've just bought the DK Eyewitness Guide Berlin on Amazon so hopefully I can plan the trip a bit in advance But I would love to hear from people that have been to Berlin - things to see and do and what to avoid. And do you have any restaurant recommendations (I like to try out local food when I travel but I also enjoy fine dining, Italian, Indian etc). We will be there for about 5 days before heading back home, Thanks in advance for any advice.

You might want to check out the Germany section. There are many Berlin threads.

Hi there,

I would really recommend doing a bike tour of the city. You get to see a lot, and there's also lots of interesting information given by the guides.

You don't need to be super fit, the cycling is done at a very slow pace.

A very enjoyable way to spend the day, including a stop for lunch at a Biergarten.

I found the Jewish Museum very interesting, and also the Stasi Museum. If you like Birkenstocks you can buy them much more cheaply in Berlin than elsewhere in the world. I bought two pairs for around 60 Euros (this was about three years ago mind). And of course, don't forget to take time out for afternoon "Kaffee und Kuchen." :p

As you live in Europe you probably don't need to be told this... but be aware that shops will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

I would second this notion: Most of the city is served by bike paths, is very flat and easily accessible by bike.

I'd also recommend a stroll through the Tiergarten...

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm aware of Easter in Europe...Norway more or less shuts down from Wednesday to Monday. But what about Maundy Thursday in Berlin? Will stores be closed?

Can I also recommend a walking tour?

I used these guys a while ago and they were great:

The tours are led (well, they were when i did it :)) by Berliners who lived in Berlin during the fall of the wall - and the stories they tell as they take you around the city are amazing.

It's a full day affair - the tour actually went an hour and a half longer than the stated time. Took in the whole central area... zoo, gardens, parliament, wall, museums, Brandenburg gate etc etc.
