iPhone Card-counting application

Funny, how goofy casinos are, with regard to their reactions about the Card Counting application for i-phones.

Are regulators over reacting to iPhone card counting program.

“How soon will it be before a customer is detained by security because he or she was simply text messaging their friend from the general proximity of a blackjack table?” Zender asked. “Worse yet, what about the possibility that this person will be arrested for possession of a cheating device which is a felony?”
Regulators : iPhone card counting app a felony

Wonderful. In LV they care a lot if I check my messages or voicemail during a shuffle without stepping back from the table. What's next, backrooming people to check the apps on their smartphones?

Hasn't it pretty much always been illegal (not just against the casino rules) to use any mechanical or electronic device for card counting? I see no reason that a computer (which is basically what the iPhone is) would be any different.

i dont see this as any different than what the rules have always been......since i started going to casinos anyways

It is a bit distressing because you can see them getting all bent out of shape with respect to cell phones in the future. That won't be good.

Slightly OT, does anyone recall instances where casino security meted out 'Casino'-style 'lessons' to the card-counting accomplice/signaller or the counter?

I only watched this again last weekend and it's a recurring theme in Scorcese movies - it's the greed that catches people, as much as anything else.

Actually, IIRC, the scene in Casino involved hole card identification not card-counting.

Yes, it's often the greed on a number of levels including playing too long and not putting in enough proper cover play moves (both in BJ, and playing other non-advantage games).

Ken Uston got beat up pretty badly in Tahoe, though, he was able to evade security with his disguises for quite some time. Though, his optimal years were in the early 70's, and security was not as sophisticated. But, in the early 70's the backroom was a bit more painful. ;)
