Odd thing happened at Baccarat last night
I was playing at the "big boys'" table for the first time the other night at the Borgata. I brought over chips from mini-bac in a bunch of purples. When coloring up later the dealer tried to give me oranges figuring (rightly so) that it would be much easier to carry. Before I got the chips a floorperson insisted that "I came in purple and should color out purple" and made the dealer swap out the chips.
This seems really odd to me especially since I was taking a different amount that I brought. Then again this is my first time playing regular baccarat so maybe there is something that I am missing. On the bright side the Borgata treated me very well otherwise (although cocktail service was just as slow as in the main area). Any ideas? Baccarat_King, I'm looking at you. |
I don't think its a Baccarat thing. The floor person must track all black, purple and orange chips. He probably didn't want the extra purple in the rack for accounting purposes. He may have just ordered a fill of purple or something else.
NOW, if you requested orange and he refused would be a surprise and poor customer service. I have always been afraid of the big Baccarat table. I don't know all of the rules and would be worried I would make a mistake when I had the shoe. Hope you had fun. |

I thought the same thing. Don't let the game scare you. The dealers are very methodical at instructing you what to do before you do it so you cannot make a huge mistake. They do this for all the players even the guys that are clearly very aware of who gets the 3rd card. Everyone (players, dealers, floorpeople) was very nice and I felt right at home.

I think Mr. Vker has basically called it. Probably was an accounting preference, on behalf of the floorperson. Though, they might also be preferring to keep tighter controls on the oranges. Sometimes, casino folks are very hard to figure. ;)
And yes, never be afraid of the big game. Personally, I won't play a game where I can't face the cards (which basically means you have to play midi or big baccarat); since that's really where the excitement is in baccarat. And dealing, well, that's definitely the best part of the game. Since a big table has 3 dealers, they have lots of time on their hands -- and will absolutely give you guidance with regard to the card draws. They do it for everyone. Of course, once you are dealing, you must remember to very carefully peek and squeeze out those cards... and of course, toss gently and perfectly to the center of the table.:cool: Over the years, I have witnessed only a few errors (miss-pulls by an over-anxious player); and usually, they'll catch (or shall we say grab) the card before it's turned over (faced) -- allowing it to become the first card dealt for the next hand. Messing up a shoe is a really big deal to a lot of players, and many would probably stop betting (for the remainder of the shoe), or request a new shoe, if a card had to be killed mid-shoe. |
