[Gaming] Points that don't expire

Hi there, I know there are a few casino points programs that don't have expiry dates on the points, but wondered if there was a definitive list showing which programs follow this approach. I think most programs now have expiry dates on the points - what is common? 1 year from acquiring points? Longer? Any insight would be great!!

Points that don't expire

This forum isn't an expert on casino points. In general, points expiration varies greatly from program to program.

ok makes sense, but is there a grid that was ever put together that showed how they vary across the major points programs?

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

I'd check the Gaming Loyalty Programs forum for that. I've suggested the forum Moderatirs move this question there.

What kind of points programs? This site is mainly about travel points/miles, and as such there is a thread in the MilesBuzz forum with a list in the wiki, but only for airline miles and hotel/rail points:

No; that is incorrect. As pointed out in the post directly above yours, there is in fact a forum entitled "Gaming Loyalty Programs". Link.

Sounds like a question for GamblerTalk, rather than FlyerTalk.

The OP just said points programs, not gaming programs. (Yes, the OP gave an example of gaming points program, but it wasn't clear to me whether gaming points were the only kinds of points program the OP cared about or not, especially with the OP's followup post about the "major" points programs.)

And I didn't say there wasn't a gaming points forum. I was describing what FlyerTalk is mainly about, in setting a context for providing the thread for airline/hotel/rail miles/points expiration.

Also, I meant that for the who read this thread and don't realize it's possibly only asking about gaming points. If it's supposed to only about gaming points, it's got a horrible thread title. If it's supposed to be about various points including -- but not limited to -- gaming points, then it's got a good thread title.

How does a thread like this degenerate into a back-and-forth on nothing more than semantics?

First off, be aware that "account activity" usually means earning something or even specific gaming activity, so you should check the T+C's to make sure. This is in contrast to most airline/hotel programs where any type of activity - even redeeming - constitutes account activity.

As a general rule, points used for rewards expire in 12 months / one year if there is no account activity. This is true for Cosmo Identity [Identity T&C D.2], V/P Grazie [faq], mLife members who have any status (i.e., Pearl+) [mLife faq], and Boyd Gaming properties [Boyd (pdf)].

The big exceptions are CET [faq], Penn Gaming properties (recently took over Tropicana, and also own M Resort) [Marquee Rewards faq], and for mLife base level Sapphire members (i.e., no status), where points used for rewards expire in 6 months if there is no account activity.

At Wynn, points expire in 12 months regardless of account activity, although I can't seem to find a public link to any Red Card T+C's....

Points used for rewards must be distinguished from points used to gain status levels. Some casinos use a rolling 365 day period while others use a fixed year (and I think some locals casinos use two half-year periods). Also be aware that the qualification periods have changed for various programs in the past (e.g., mLife once moved from rolling calendar to a 10/1-9/30 calendar), and what counts for status and what counts for rewards varies heavily from program to program, so it's important to check the specific T+Cs.

Thank you gengar for not only being civil - but giving a detailed - straightforward answer to original question.
