Checking into a comped room no CC

I am thinking of taking my first comped trip to Vegas sometime soon (RFL), probably at an MGM property.

I am however hesitant to leave my credit card details with reception - is it possible to pay in cash ? Or will they insist, at all costs, on my leaving a credit card with them ?

Thanks

I don't take creditcards to Vegas (too tempting ;) ) -and debit cards take forever to release the funds back so I have alwayspaid cash deposit checking in at various hotels in Vegas without issue. I'd call MGM tho and checkexactly how much per night it'll be (probably between $100-$200 per night.

What's got you worried about this?

Hotels are the riskiest (non-online) industry re identity theft and credit card misuse. If possible, I'd rather not give them my credit card.

As the room (and meals) will be comped, I am wondering if I can avoid the need for a credit card.

I would think RFL will require a credit card as the "L" stands for limited and they want to be sure anything charged to the room that is not covered will be paid. We go several times a year and are RFB and always must supply a credit card at MGM Grand. Only amounts on it at end of trip are the tips. We've never had any issues with our CC.

Do you NOT travel much? ;)

Big downside to the 'cash-deposit' is that you tend to have to wait in a line (often a long line) to retrieve your 'cash' and 'settle' your folio. In 'modern times' (and when using a credit card) you can instead just review your folio (easiest on the TV) and either just leave and/or advise the front desk via phone (or checkout on the TV) to just mail (email) a copy of the (settled) folio. Saving you you the hassle of physically checking out.

If I am checking out in the morning, I settle my bill the previous night (when the lines are generally much shorter). But once the bill is settled NO further charges can be made to the room. (Of course, if you carry out the 42" plasma TV, they would have difficulty collecting.:D)

Even full RFB requires a credit card at every property I've gotten RFB at (many hotels may have this policy in general to try to cover for incidentals/damages). The way to put it is that RFBL doesn't imply that RFB is unlimited, it just indicates that RFBL is really limited.

As long as you're using a credit card (not a debit card) you have virtually no liability for the tiny chance that someone misappropriates your information.
