Email about free checked bag in lieu of carry on
A little gift to make your travel day easier
We're offering you a complimentary upgrade: switch your carry-on bag to a checked bag — on us. You’ll still board early, just with one less thing to carry. Here's how it helps: ✅ Check it early — Drop your bag before security and travel light ✅ Settle in easily — Nothing to lift or stow onboard ✅ Board early, relax sooner — You're still in Zone 1 ✅ No cost to you — This one's on us I actually may take them up on the offer. I'm Gold Elite, so I only get the free carry on. |

Applies to everyone in the same passenger record number with a carry on bag.
Seems to apply to first flight and connecting flight. Does not seem to apply to return flights, which is why I decided against it (don't want to pay for a checked bag on the remaining flights). |

I've received this email a few times before when the flight looked like it was going to be full; I think they're trying to save overhead bin space, and maybe also make a little $$ since we'd have to pay for the checked bag on the return flight.
Personally, I never bite at these as I travel with only a carry-on if at all possible. For some reason, baggage claim at MCO adds like an hour to the end of the trip, and I'd rather be home by then. Other airports are probably a different experience. |

What are the advantages of round trip booking on Frontier, aside from this week's companion deal? |
You can only access it if you get the email.
There is a link that takes you to a page with the offer. I was on a connecting flight. The first flight had no gate announcement about the free checked bag, but the second flight did. Obviously, Frontier was trying to head off a lot of carry on bags by making the offer early for the second flight. Btw, has anyone noticed how many people are in Zone 1 now (that have carry on bags)? |

Yeah, the last flight I was on, it was almost the whole plane lined up with their carry-ons for Zone 1.

Now that almost everyone on the plane is Zone 1, Frontier needs to let ALL of the elite flyers board early. It doesn't cost them anything, and would be a worthwhile benefit.

My last Frontier flight I had carry on plus personal item. As gold I was one of the first to board, a sold out fight Philly to Vegas, and I had a very tight connection in Vegas on Southwest, clear across the airport. Anyway, my carry-on was very very small, like less than a 1/4 the size of most roller bags and since I was early on the plane I placed it directly above my seat. Great, until the flight is filling up and the FA is desperately trying to find room for everyone's carry-ons. She spots my small bag which wont fit under my seat because my backpack, which is the larger of the 2, is already there, and insists on moving it all the way to back of the plane. I'm in row 6 and will now have to wait to be the last person off the plane in order to retrieve my tiny carry-on. I'm essentially punished for packing small and lite. When I protest and mention my tight connection she threatens to gate check it--would eliminate any chance I'd have of retrieving the bag and then making next flight. Thankfully, she found room for it about 5 rows behind me. Still annoying. Next time I'll bring a much bigger bag.

I got this too and ignored it, but now I need to check a bag (last minute decision to bring stuff to my college student).
So now I am wondering how this is enforced. If I had taken the offer to check the bag, how do they know that I am no longer allocated a carry-on bag? It's too late for this flight (already paid $52, egads) but just curious. |
