LAX Gates

I'm giving Frontier a try as the intra-Calif fares on Southwest have become ridiculous. Frontier seem to be relatively on time and I have flown RyanAir, so totally ok with all the fee rules.

I know the checkin at LAX is at T1 but the gates are at TBIT. Assuming I just have a personal item can I just go through security at TBIT and that will be faster?
Has TSA Pre been working ok on Frontier?
Anything else I should be aware of flying them?

Yes you can clear at TBIT, just be aware that it is still a hike because Frontier uses the end gates (209) at the midfield concourse. If you don't want to do that hike, there is a bus that is right by Security in T1 that goes to the midfield concourse.

TSA pre works fine on F9. Compared to WN which boards 30 min prior to departure, F9 boards earlier so be at the gate 45 minutes before departure. Frontier works great when everything works. When their is a problem, that is when you have issues. Frontier doesnt do flight credits if you need to cancel your flight and has been prone to cancelations more than SWA. Also, if you are not paying for carryon, you can go on Amazon and buy a bag with the exact dimensions that F9 allows for a personal item for $15.

Thanks! Those TBIT outer gates are a haul!
Really a pity that F9 do not have the frequency that is needed to really compete intraCalif.
The price war at the moment will probably chase them out anyway.

The first time I ever flew Frontier was out of LAX, and not knowing better, the Uber dropped me off at the Frontier check-in even though I didn't have any luggage.

I had well over an hour before my flight and thought I would be sitting around bored.

I barely made it; they were boarding just as I ran up. It was surely the longest walk I've ever done at any airport.

With the traffic in the LAX drive, I could easily argue that was quicker than dropping you off at TBIT.

Once the automated shuttle starts operating, your best bet is to be dropped off at the car rental center, take the automated shuttle to TBIT, and then walk. It's a long walk, but I think it's best as long as you already have your boarding pass and don't need to check any bags.
