List of the changes from VFTW (assuming it came from a media kit based on the graphics); not sure how complete it is given the lack of "no award/contact center ticketing fees" that TPG says remains.

The Zone 1 thing isn't such a big deal... as noted in a separate thread, it's hit-or-miss as to whether they even call Elites or not, and they usually call Zone 1 either immediately after or in the same boarding announcement.
Outside of the status matching they've done the past few years, I don't think this will add too many to the existing levels (obviously the silver tier will grow as it's currently at zero). It varies based on the add-ons one buys, their current status, and route length, but it looks like it is about $200-$250 domestic r/ts (add $100ish for int'l flights, depending on the destination, as non-mile-earning taxes are much higher) are the sweet spot for where you will start to do better with revenue-based elite earning vs mile-based elite earning.

Gotcha. They keep calling it miles so I assumed you got both miles and fees as miles.

So curious now if they do away with the super cheap flights or of those remain... also the flying passes.

It looks like to maintain status going forward (Platinum), I would need to spend $3125 throughout the year. The annual pass is $2k. Might make it worth doing that since it's no longer about the miles being earned. Then fly enough to spend $1125 in flight purchases.

I was thinking they would raise their base fares in conjunction with lowering their incidental fees for things like carryons, but with a switch over to dollar-based earning, it's less likely.

I assume the revenue is attached to the ticket and the FF# on the ticket, not to who paid for it. That's how it works on every other airline.

This is a huge negative development for me, since I am always hunting low fares and even go out of my way to buy at the counter. I understand why Frontier is doing it but still very disappointing. We'll see if I'm able to maintain status after next year... it certainly changes the equation when deciding which airline to fly. Right now, I fly Frontier almost exclusively, even if the timing or routing is worse. If I don't get the perks I'm currently getting as an elite, Frontier's fare will have to be significantly lower than the competition in those cases going forward.

One big question is... do taxes and airport fees count in the miles calculation? I see no mention on those in the announcement. That accounts for minimum $30 or so on the fare, so it's non-trivial.

People really think there will be many more elites? That's crazy. How many are there now? How many people are going to spend 1k on Frontier over a year that aren't already doing so? Elite will continue to be from matches IMO.

I thought about it for a bit and I think it's a relative wash compared to current. Only people who lose are those racking up Elite qualifying with cheap mileage runs, who I understand an airline doesn't want to reward. As for the miles themselves, those are pretty much worthless to begin with so changing up the process doesn't make much difference. Takes a really weird situation to get a good redemption on them and with the fees for non elites i can't see them being worth much consideration.

My take on the changes from purely a benefit pov and not qualification wise:

IMO The new 100K looks to be slightly improved overall.

The No Change/Cancel Fees at 7 Days for the whole party, accessible at the new sub-20K level is a huge benefit! I suspect after the first year of this new program they might retune this benefit.

Overall I see this a step in the right direction. F9 is expanding and investing in this program and while they chipped away at 50K a bit but added a huge lot, they seem committed to the program.

I just wish they had given 100K something a bit better than 2nd. Checked bag which is in all reality will be very rarely used by anyone given their route network.

I like it as I basically get 100k status next year for my current 50k status (qualified for it next year as well).
I paid $99 for 50k status, then another $499 for 100k status. While I am realizing more than $598 benefit from it on a trip I have planned with my family in December in Florida, I do feel like this would have, otherwise, been a bit of bait and switch. Pay an extra $499 for the carryon bag and having the benefits for companions, but then I would have gotten most of that, anyway, with the 50k status. Just my 2 cents. Wouldn't have changed anything on my end, but could see how somebody may be pissed in a similar situation to me.

It feels likes this is the culmination of all the little changes that have been happening over the past several months. It's the final F.U to airport ticket buyers since now they're incentivized to pay the CIC fee in order to earn more miles. These changes will cut my frontier flying by about 50%. Mileage runs to at least 3 cities of my usual cities won't be worth it anymore and I will be driving there instead and save money/hassle.

Revenue based redemption would benefit me - there are more $19 fares than $200 fares where I live. Does anyone know if that's what they're going with?

I'm in the same situation in that I paid $499 extra. I'm really ticked because I paid extra for the 100k status just for the carry on bag for companions. I could have saved the money. I don't need the 100k (Diamond) extras such as second checked bag free or refundability. I'll never use the second checked bag. Refundability is nice, but not $499 nice. Sent a complaint in to Frontier just to voice my displeasure, but I know nothing will be done other than possibly giving me a worthless voucher.

Frontier Airlines has overhauled its Free Spirit loyalty program, adding new tiers and benefits and moving to a revenue-based mileage model.

You will get Stretch seating for companions at booking. 50k lost that.

As a Status Match 100K (second time around), I guess these changes are a slight negative to me but won't change my behavior. In a year, with my pool, I do currently earn a few free tickets, and that will now all go poof. Those tickets are hard to effectively use -- and now even harder with fewer transcons -- but I have used then for otherwise "expensive" fares (over $100). It was a good option to have in weird circumstances -- like needing a summer transcon when all the published fares on all airlines were expensive, and nobody else had decent frequent flyer redemptions available. Oh well. Almost all of my purchased tickets are under $40, so these freebies were just gravy. And now I can give Gold status to a family member and they will certainly appreciate it.
