Schedule extension prediction?
Any idea when the schedule will be extended to cover the holidays?
|
I have no idea but it should be soon as southwest extended their schedule. I am wanting to book for thanksgiving weekend.....
|
I've been watching it each morning as well. Not sure if they'll have any basic award level seats available over the Thanksgiving holiday, but if they do I'm hoping to jump on them since I'm sure they'll go quickly.
|
I hope so I want to tie down some holiday travel.
Southwest publishes the dates they will extend their schedule. They just opened their schedule through January 4th and on June 30, 2015 they will open their schedule for sale through March 8, 2016. |
Bump for an update. Anyone? Maybe I should call and ask a res agent?
|
Twitter says they only know when it's published.
|
I called and asked a res agent. laughably inept, could barely explain in english that schedules are posted for only 6 months out. I guess I'll check their twitter account?

Ok I called back and got someone who knew how to find the answer. Post October schedule won't be posted until end of June!

I find it ridiculous that they charge a fee for booking less than 6 months out but they only offer flights more than 6 months out for a period of about 4 days after releasing the new schedule.

they charge a fee for award tickets less than 6 months out and its waived if you have their Frontier Credit Card (the version with and without the annual fee).

I'd think Frontier would want to attain the additional revenue of purchased tickets for guaranteed to run itineries past October at this point, even if the full schedule isn't decided and Frontier is awaiting for load factor and revenue performance for the experimental routes. Frontier likes to craft schedules partially on routes that operate seasonally, so summer performance might not be a factor for winter schedules anyways. For example, I'm sure TTN will be heavy on Florida with PBI and RSW possibly as daily, while ORD, DTW, and MSP are suspended. |
They just tweeted it will be extended to 1/4/16 tomorrow.

The Good News: The schedule is finally up!
The Bad News: There are no low-level award flights ANYWHERE  even during the low season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hopefully they'll be loading those later but I was really hoping to snag award flights for Thanksgiving. |

Any ideas when the schedule will be extended again?
It currently goes to October 26 2016. I'd expect an extension soon. Southwest currently goes out to November 4. On June 2, 2016 they will open their schedule for sale through January 4, 2017. |

Looks like we might be waiting until mid/late June again for a schedule extension this year. Long wait - hopefully it comes sooner (or at least the date of the extension release is announced!).

Well here is it mid-June and still nothing. I check a couple times each day as we have a December itinerary in mind and hope to beat Southwest's fare. These two airlines are our only non-stop options...
|
through 3/1/17 this evening!!!
Calendar is through 3/1/17 this evening but you can't yet buy.. This morning it was still only through 10/26..

Outrageous Opening Day Pricing?
I am not super familiar with Frontier. In the past, it hasn't really had the routes we have needed from our preferred home airport to our destinations. However, due to a wedding, we will be going to a different location that has us looking at Frontier as an option.
Prior to 10/26, the fares are relatively reasonable, about what we expected them to be. From 10/27 on, fares are in the 300-400-500 EACH WAY price range. Is it normal for prices to be so high opening day, then they will decrease later on? I am just not familiar with the Frontier formula, so looking for some expertise here. |

You don't say when you need to travel if it's during the holiday travel period they may hold holiday pricing but after the first of the year and possibly in parts of November and December I expect to see much lower fares. |
Nope it wasn't during the holiday season at all. 10/28 was what we were looking at.
Since I checked this morning, it looks like fares have settled in to a more normal range. Right now, Frontier is running neck and neck with Southwest, but if SW drops I would at least get a credit. Frontier has a better flight time though, so it's a toss up. |
I wonder when we'll hear about new routes. It appears that some of the seasonal east-west flying from Philadelphia ends in October, but some routes like PHL-MCO go back up to 3x daily.
