Cancellation of Return Leg: any options other than a refund?
 

Hi all, we made some reservations from our local airport on Frontier Airlines for my daughter's graduation in Portland OR in May. We selected Frontier because it was the best rate. We just received notice yesterday that Frontier will cease operations at our local airport and they offered to book our return to the new location ~80 miles away.

Needless to say this won't work since our car would be at the departure airport. I asked for a rental car to get back to our car and was denied. I asked about routing both ways through the arrival airport and that won't work (I don't think they start operations in time for our departure). I asked about another airport 70 miles in a different direction and apparently that won't work either. So I asked for my money back on the return leg and I'll make reservations on another airline. I did fill out a complaint online.

Should I have left the leg in place to help in negotiations? What more could I have done? I am torqued that I will have to pay an additional $250 for the trip now.

There's nothing more you could have done. Taking the refund is probably the best choice. A one way rental probably would have been less than the $250 would have been to pick up the car, but that's water under the bridge now.
