Does anyone know if F9 has the ability or desire to upgrade the DTV service on it's planes?

I had the unfortunate necessitation to fly on a United 737-8/9 last week. Couldnt have been more uncomfortable and out of place (I dont like to fly airlines out of my comfort zone) but the Direct TV service (95 channels) and the screens (looked to be about 9-10" and wide) were NICE. For 6 or 8 dollars depending on the length of the flight, price wasn't bad either.

I can't answer your question unfortunately. What you describe would definitely be nice. I was recently on one of the new A320's in Frontier's fleet between DEN-LGA, but the DirectTV service was the same as the rest of the fleet.

Quick question... are you sure the DirecTV was on United flight? I thought DirecTV was only being installed on the Continental 737 next gen aircraft.

To be honest, with the merger and that having been my first time on either airline, I'm not sure which name the flight was under or what name was on the plane. It could have very well been a continental plane, but the flight was coded UA; I was even told to check in at one counter versus another after the kiosk found my flight and told me to hoof it over to the other airlines counter.

Those do look nice. I doubt F9 would be willing to upgrade right now though for cost reasons. Heck, we haven't even had a single plane with wifi on it yet. I would prefer fleet wide wifi before anything else. Even with 95 channels you are limited to what is airing at the moment you are on the plane.

You flew CO metal. UA metal does not have DTV. Regardless what was painted on the side, as slowly, both fleets are being repainted, and what was coded (as virtually all CO flights have a UA flight number and vice versa), it was CO. It cost $6 on all flights (no $8 for longer flights,) and is free in F as well as for pax who pay for an ELR (exit row or bulkhead seat). (Pax who are elite and choose an ELR for free do not get it free.)

I've never heard of it costing more than $6, and using a Continental Airlines branded credit card saves you $2. Perhaps I'm mistaken though about the fee. But I know that on transcons it's $6, so I can't thinkof where it would be more..
