New STRETCH pricing
 

I don't know when this change occurred, but I just came across it today.

Interesting. I'm guessing it is based on how long the flight is?

That particular page has been out there for at least a couple of weeks. I haven't seen anything else to support that, so I'm not sure if it is:

--is a typo

--represents something they were going to do but have tabled

--represents something over the horizon.

Other places still show $25 per segment, which is what I believe is currently in effect. So...not sure what this page means at this point.

The upgrade to STRETCH is based on the class of fare booked.

Upgrade from economy fare is $25, from Classic $15, and no charge for STRETCH on a Classic Plus fare.

This has always been the case.

How long before STRETCH upgrades are increased? I recall Greg Aretakis mentioning on a conference call, they were going to be "tinkering" with STRETCH pricing.

It doesn't look like they are increasing across the board, it says "from $5 / segment" which I'm guessing would mean short flights would be $5 / segment and longer flights would probably be more. Sounds like they want to increase the uptake by making it cheaper on some flights.

De-lurking to say when I just checked in for a DCA-DEN flight tomorrow, the online check-in offered to upgrade me to stretch for $40...and my ticket was a Classic. I guess that means an Economy upgrade would be $50? I was going to do it for $15, 20, but not for $40.

On the A319 the stretch seating is nice, but I have also experienced the regular seating and there isn't too much difference. At least for me there is room between my knees and the seat in front of me (I'm 6'2") for the regular seats. So if stretch is priced above 25 bucks, then I probably won't buy it because I am just as comfortable without it. Just my two cents.

This flight is on an A320. How worthwhile is the stretch seating on those?

Personally, I prefer STRETCH on the E190. I've flown it in the 2X1 and 2X2 configurations. The 2X2 was just as comfortable as not having anyone next to you.

The A320's mainly fly out of DEN, not MKE. So I have yet to be on an F9 A320 flight. Maybe someone else can chime in?

Yup. Economy upgrade to Stretch is now $50 per segment. From the looks of all the available STRETCH seating it looks like there aren't many suckers, er, I mean customers.

I just checked in for my flight home and they asked $25 to upgrade for Classic fare AUS-MKE via MCI. I decided against it this time but wanted to provide another data point for anyone keeping track. Obviously they are playing with how to make more money from STRETCH but if less people take it at the higher price point the expected response would be to lower the price or offer more perks to those that upgrade.

It looks like there is not great success in selling STRETCH, especially on the E190.

I believe that STRETCH is being mostly populated by free elite upgrades.
