Classic +$10

On ALL non-stop flights to/from Denver, Classic is being offered for only $10 more than Economy. So, for an extra $10, you get two bags of luggage and DIRECTV for free, plus the extra 25% EQMs.

Should be implemented system wide. At least temporarily.

knope2001 Aug 24, 2010 7:11 am

It is systemwide for all nonstop segments which offer the three-tier pricing.

Today that includes a few non-Denver flights which operate primarily as Frontier such as Milwaukee-Branson. For travel starting September 30, flights from the entire legacy Midwest network also have the classic fare for $10 above economy for sale.

When everything is on the Frontier platform, they should do a push to educate the YX markets about Classic and Classic Plus, and tie that into this promotion. Doing a push like that right now is inviting confusion, but they should have it in their arsenal for that point.

It's a technology issue that will be resolved overtime, like Knope said. He hit the nail on the head.

We can't sell Classic or Classic Plus on YX partition flights. So there would be no reason to have the $10+ promotion on flights that aren't sold with AirFairs.

knope2001 Aug 24, 2010 9:28 am

I'm guessing that since you can by Classic for former-YX flights starting 9/30, that's the day everything will be one platform...or at least the target date.

I suspect everybody is really looking forward to the two-platform situation being behind us. Although various glitches are always a real possibility, hopefully things are all ready to go by that date. 9/30 is just over five weeks away...

In the meantime, if your YX reservation also has a Frontier PNR, you can call F9; with an EarlyReturns account number, they can add your reservation for access on the Frontier site. If you do not have an EarlyRewards account, open one up online and receive 500 miles, just for signing up.

Right now, neither can access the other's system. It sounds like YX CSRs still must receive training on the F9 system.

I was tempted to do just that to get the 500 miles, but when I book on the Frontier site with a new FF number, I don't have any of the MME benefits...primarily getting Stretch or exit row at booking.

As someone who does system conversion and integration for a living, I'm sure this is quite a project. The process of moving my YX account into the F9 base is probably far easier and less perilous than merging my YX account with a new F9 account. Merging my DL and NW accounts was messy and I had issues of not being able to log in, incorrect information, etc, for a time. It did not harm me because I wasn't doing anything active with either account and my DL/NW flying was being credited to my YX account. But it took time to get cleaned up, and I would not be surprised to see similar in this merge.

As far as merging accounts, I can see potential problems such as registering with a middle initial for one account, but not the other, using a home address for contact info on one, but work address for the other, different contact phone numbers, etc.; it will be a major project!

For the NW/DL merge, there was an incentive of bonus miles for those FF members who voluntarily merged their two accounts, well in advance of the formal transition; this lightened the load at the end of the process for DL.

It's very difficult to programatically combine lists like that. If you require every single field to match perfectly, there will be many records which should merge but don't. If you don't require every single field to match perfectly, then it's necessarily an imperfect judgement call.

I had forgotten about that -- I tried twice to merge mine and the process failed both times, so I gave up. It does not sound like there's been a similar effort in the F9/YX world. Perhaps when the accounts are all on a single platform, people with two accounts will have the ability to request a merge at that point if they were not automatically combined.

Frontier should consider the same incentive. However, it is getting a little late in the game to start thinking about that. They are too busy telling us we'll retain the same FF number.

This works to view the reservation on the Frontier site; however, when I click on the link to view the itinerary at Sabre's Virtually There, a message appears on the Virtually There page "Itinerary view is not allowed, please contact your travel arranger."

Why?

The promotion is over (was available on all routes).

Was it successful? Did anybody here take advantage of it?

Seat maps currently showing Classic beginning in row 5. Must have been a temporary glitch.

Classic sale

Classic are on sale again. However, you might get free baggage, but don't expect 2 cookies. "Best Care"??? dropped to 1 cold cookie each - and no meals were offered on either of our flts, DFW/MKE which was at 4:45.

We have only offered one cookie for over 2 months now. The amount of waste was incredible, over 100 cookies on every flight. If the plane doesn't have an oven then they will be cold. DFW to MKE isn't 4:45, its only 2:30. Not all of the MKE-DFW-MKE flights will have fresh food options because of time of day. However there will always be a snack for purchase option.

Stumblefoot Oct 13, 2010 9:28 am

Did you ask if they had their meal service selections available on your flight? My early morning flight to MSP on 10/11 had all of the breakfast meal options available and my return to DEN on 10/12 had all of the lunch/dinner options available. And, everyone received their soft, chewy cookie too.

Considering that Frontier never had cookies before, the fact they offer several menu choices for purchase on their flight, and recently, were sincere in the service they provided me on a policy change to their business travel program, I tend to take the half-full view of "Best Care".

Can you pay $ 10 to upgrade to Classic even if you don't buy your ticket directly from Frontier?

knope2001 Oct 22, 2010 8:05 pm

Unfortunately not -- at least not at this point.

I understand the idea of working to get everybody to buy directly from Frontier, but not everybody can or will buy directly.

mke9499 Apr 11, 2011 11:45 am

Not exactly the same as the Classic+$10 promo, but some flights show only a $15 surcharge for booking Classic over Economy.

From what I've noticed, it seems that the $15 fee is mostly on leisure routes,
but it could have just been the particular itineraries I was looking at.

Other Classic fees are coming up at $20, $25, or $30 over Economy.

Is there a way to do this with a multi-city booking? It doesn't look like it. I guess I'll have to go with two one-way tickets.

This is something I never noticed...you are absolutely right in that there is no place to enter a promo code for a multi-city itinerary, even on the Flight Finder page.

The Flight Finder page, which has a place to enter the promo code, shows travel as either Round Trip, One Way, or Multiple Cities, but only allows Round Trip or One Way to be checked; clicking on Multiple Cities redirects one to the old booking page, with no place to enter the promo code.

When the Flight Finder page first opens, for a couple of seconds there's a box where a promo code can be entered; it mysteriously disappears before any code can be entered. Glitch?

If that's the case then it's probably being hidden client-side... if you use Firefox+Firebug or a similar tool for other browsers, you can probably alter that field element's properties to un-hide it, and then see what happens when you submit the form.

RSVP Apr 26, 2011 4:48 pm

You can't even enter a city code now. The drop down menu has disappeared, as you try to enter the city code, you get a message that says no airports, please backspace.
