No award travel out of RKS

Just found out that Frontier doesn't allow award travel to/from RKS :td:

I code share out of there on Frontier and United. Will have to check if UAL allows this and swap my flights to them (and credit card).

It depends on the agreement that UA has with Great Lakes Airlines. The RKS-DEN, as you know, is operated by Great Lakes via a codeshare and your bags arrive at your destination via an interline agreement.

I cannot find anything on UA's website saying that Great Lakes is a mileage awards partner, but I did find numerous times the following language:

"Travel on code share flights operated by other airlines is excluded."

This is pretty standard for most programs.

I'd suggest using the miles you have accumulated on the DEN-XXX leg and pay for the Great Lakes leg on its own. I'd assume you'll save some money that way.

Also, it is a drive, but if you're in the mood to fly on just miles, you could drive a bit to a Frontier city. Jackson Hole will be served by Lynx starting on May 15, and Grand Junction will be served by Lynx starting on May 1.

The way Great Lakes works, you would have to buy directly from them when not continuing on F9 or UA on the same PNR. At this point the ticket will be full price and not the discounted (subsidized?) ticket when added to another itinerary.

Looking at round-trips using March 19th as the departure day, RKS-DEN is $374+. It actually looks like there is very little in the way of discounts from RKS since that is about what is added on when comparing RKS-FLL and DEN-FLL (nice long flight to Ft. Lauderdale).

OUCH!

I guess driving to Grand Junction or Jackson Hole would probably be the best option then.
