JAL free ticket giveaway

In order to qualify all you need to do is be a member of JAL’s JMB Mileage Bank frequent flyer program, and have your permanent residence outside of Japan. Surprisingly, it seems you don’t even need to fly Japan Airlines to Japan – you just need to get there somehow.

As with most things the Japanese airlines do, the details can be a little hard to follow. And it seems we don’t even have all of the details yet. But for anyone with plans to be in Japan
between July 1 and September 30, 2020, this could be well worth trying for.

What we know so far

–Some time in late February 2020, it will be possible to go to this website and apply for free tickets.

–There will be a maximum of 50,000 free roundtrip tickets offered during the campaign, and presumably it’s first come, first served. It’s unclear whether all will be released at once, or in batches over a number of days.

– When you apply through the website, you pick a date and time slot and JAL will show four possible destinations. You can confirm you’re happy with the destinations, or if you don’t like them, you can search again to receive four different places. Which one you eventually get will be a surprise.

–Within three days, assuming you got your application in before they ran out of tickets, you’ll receive an email detailing where you’ll be going.

–You need to have an international ticket to Japan booked for the period, and you’ll need to input the info for your arrival flight when you apply.

–You can book for up to four people at once.

–Flights depart from either Tokyo (Haneda) or Osaka (Itami).

It’s unfortunate that they don’t specify the opening date for applications nor give you anywhere to put in an email and be reminded. So best to set a reminder to check back in February.

Unless you’re especially interested in seeing the Olympics, it’s probably a good idea to stay away from Japan during those particular weeks (July 24 to August 9). The good news is this campaign runs for a while before and after.

Excuse for possible ignorance here, but I fail to see any element of "Contest or Sweepstake" in this offer.

Since this deal is only open to MLB members residing outside of Japan, every participant is required to buy a ticket of transport to any of the two departing cities, alas, not necessarily limited to the organizer JL.
