What to do for a few hours in Lille?

I am missing 50 points for my Eurostar Carte Blanche, so have decided to do a quick trip from Brussels to Lille this Saturday. I'll probably be on my own.

Is there anything nice to visit in walking distance from Lille Europe station? Nice city center? Any suggestions on what to do?

I'll probably be there around noon, but have some flexibility as to how long to stay. I will have flexible tickets anyway, so if I don't like it, can take an earlier train home...

their museum has a Hieronymus Bosch painting, which are quite rare to be seen. i thought they had two when i was there.

the center city is a mall, and has a number of fine restaurants.

You should investigate the local restaurants and try either Moules/frites (mussels and chips) or Flammische - a Picardie speciality involving cheese and potatoes.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look around.

No need to do this in Lille, I live in Brussels after all.

Is Lille along the route of the Paris-AMS train? Would love to make a stop in Lille for a few hours if I can get off the train for a bit and catch a later one (or is that not permitted?).

No, it is not. But you could go Paris-Lille-Brussels-Amsterdam, which is not too much of a detour. Two changes required though.
