Suggestions for ground transportation at CDG

I am traveling DFW to CDG on Feb 27/28, 2008. I am looking for suggestions on how to get to my hotel in the 18th. I am considering taking the train or a shuttle. Any advice. Money is an issue as the dollar is down and I am trying to economize, but will spend if I have to.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/advice/comments.

Thank you dhammer53, that helps a bunch.

I would also like to get advice on where to get the best deals on Euros, Metro passes, Museum passes, etc (here or there, which is better?).

a helpful soul already moved your thread to the right place which is the France forum. :) but France is celebrating Christmas right now so not everybody is in front of his computer right now. btw, I need to go back or my family will be mad at me. ;)

give some time and you'll get all your answers. don't hesitate to contact a forum moderator if you have any question.

Although off its lows, the dollar is actually up a bit against the Euro. The best place to get Euros is at an ATM. Ask you bank about the fees and if there are partner ATMs you can use for less/no fees (e.g. Bank of America and BNP Paribas are partners). Be sure to let your bank know when you will be out of the country and which countries you will be visiting. If your bank charges a per-withdrawal fee, my advice is to pull out the maximum amount each time (e.g. 300-400 EUR).

Some credit cards, like Capital One cards, offer 0% or 1% forex charges (most are 3%).

Bon voyage!

Part of the 18th arrondissement is just North of Gare du Nord. Do you have the name of the hotel ?

Rick Steves current book on Paris is a great compendium on all the Paris basics (get the newest Paris one, not the similar one that covers France on a broader basis).

Yes, I am staying at the Comfort Inn Saint Pierre at 10 Rue de Clignancourt.

It is one station away from Gare du Nord, where the RER (suburban train) arrives from CDG. So, you could bring the cost down to EUR 10 to reach the hotel. It is close to the Sacré Coeur, not in the best area of Paris, but not dangerous either, and a few minutes away from Metro station Barbès Rochechouart. Just be on the lookout for pickpockets and you should be OK. Taxi from CDG should be around EUR 40 during daytime.

Thanks Jouy31, that is a big help. I think I will take the RER to Gare du Nord.
