Paris on Pentecost
 

I land in Paris on the morning of Sunday 11-May which is Pentecost/Whit Sunday and will be there for the week.

I had assumed that most things would be closed on the Sunday, but didn't realise that they'd also all be closed on the Monday. Is there somewhere to figure what is opened/closed? I'm currently under the impression that stores/banks and many restaurants will be closed but tourist sites (ones that aren't closed all Mondays) will be open. What about department stores like Printemps?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks, but I was hoping someone had more detailed/specific information.

I had found similar sites but they aren't very specific/helpful other than saying that "many businesses will have erratic opening hours" and that "most shops and businesses, though not necessarily museums or restaurants, are closed", which I already knew.

Oh well, I'll just see what is open when I get there and plan on the fly.

frontenac551, it appears that Monday will be a holiday as it had been for a number of years until 2006 when the government declared it to be a work day. Naturally this was not greeted well and Pentecost Monday will be a holiday once more. Several years ago we were in Nuremberg on Pentecost on Sunday and the city was completely at a stand still...we had to go to the train station to get film (this was a long time ago) and only found an ice cream stand available for refreshment. Don't know if Monday would be as bad, but if the French have a holiday my best bet is they will enjoy every minute of it. We have wandered around places in Spain and Italy on a regular Sunday...shops all closed, especially in Spain...but managed to enjoy the feel of the city. Have a great trip!

To be honest, no one here knows so far how this day will be treated ... since eventhough it was declared as a normal day by the governement, many companies and even state employers ha still looked upon it as a holiday during previous years! Working for a private company, I still don't know if this year's will be off or not
