How About Steak Frites Recommendations?
While we are doing recommendation threads, any recommendations for Steak Frites in Paris? I will be arriving from several days in London, staying in the Marais, but don't mind going to the Left Bank (St. Germain des Pres, Latin Quarter) or Montmartre. I have had great Steak Frites in Reims in the past, would love to find a spot in Paris.

One choice is the Ralais de Paris restaurant chain. All they serve is steak frites (actually they have 4 different dishes, but you get the idea). A chain, but well done. If you don't, see http://www.relaisdeparis.com/anglais/index.htm
Otherwise, every genuine Parisian bistro serves pretty good steak frites, just look for a zinc counter and eat there. |
Le Relais de Venise
Le Relais de Venise
271 Blvd Periere Port Maillot Your only choices are how you would like the staek cooked and what wine. They serve an excelennt salad followed by steak et frites. Only caution i sthat they do not take reservations. |

Chez Georges (the one on Rue du Mail) has a great Steak Frites. We'll be there on the 27th.

RE:steak frites
I vote for Relais de Venise, too.
The lines start at 7:00. You can sometimes get in a bit early if you volunteer for the non-smoking seats upstairs. |

I don't know specially nice places for frites and steak in Paris. But, I usually go either to the area of Montmartre, or to Saint Germain des Prés. You can find there different kinds of 'snack restaurants'.

I don't smoke, however, I avoid the non-smoking area upstairs ... all you find there are fellow Americans:D We went by bus -nice ride through nice areas- from Montparnass to Port Maillot .... but the bus was coming from the Marais area (where the OP, adagio, is staying) |

Their Steak Frites come with Bernaise Sauce. |
RE:Relais de Venise
I live in the Marais, too, but it's an easy transfer to the #1 Metro, which will take you directly to Porte Maillot. And as for the Americans in the non-smoking section, I can deal with that, if I get in 15 minutes earlier and it's cold and rainy outside and I'm not under the awning or next to the outdoor heater. I think the RER A stops there, too, although I've never gone that way.

Two other good suggestions (same chain):
Relais de l'Entrecôte (Le). 15 r Marbeuf, 8th arr. 01 49 52 07 17 Relais de l'Entrecôte Saint Germain. 20Bis r St Benoît. 6th arr. 01 45 49 16 00 |
Thanks for the help and recommendations. It will take a little while to work with a map and digest them all. This will be my fifth time visiting, so I am more comfortable getting around. I am bringing two of my brothers this time. Last visit was a week in November 05. I have walked by the Relais de l'Entrecôte Saint Germain but never stopped in. We are staying at the Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais in the Marais (any reviews???).
Thanks again for all the help! |

I love Chez Georges:)
Their Steak Frites come with Bernaise Sauce. One thing to be "careful" of however, is that if one doesn't speak French, it is sometimes better to have a hotel concierge make reservations for you, since the Maitre'd doesn't like to "fill-up" the dining room with non-French speakers. Best, Dave |

Best, Dave BTW - I sat three inches away from Ina Garten (the barefoot contessa) 2 nights ago. |
