Also, one more question although im sure the answer is yes, the Metro and RER will be up and running on the 25th correct? I land at CDG that morning and plan to take the RER in to town.

I would also like someone to confirm that the Metro/RER will be running on Christmas morning --- I wonder how infrequently (once per hour?) the trains will run from CDG? Will some of the smaller stations (eg. Abbesses) be closed? Anything else I should know?

Yes, it will be running on a holiday schedule (jours fériés). The RATP site shows RER line B from CDG leaving approximately every 7-8 minutes. None of the stations would be closed because of the holiday, though some are occasionally closed for renovation (you can find those on the RATP site under Trafic, as well as any SNCF issues and upcoming planned social movements/demonstrations).

We spent last Christmas in Paris, and yes, a lot was closed but there was plenty to see, including the Pompidou center museum:

Here are this year's hours:
Saturday 24 December: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (the ticket desks will close at 6 p.m.)
Monday 25 December: usual opening hours (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

I think the Eiffel tower is open as well.

Ask your hotel to help with reservations for a nice restaurant on Christmas Day. There are a lot of Parisians who don't cook in.

Have fun!

I will be in Paris for Christmas day (first Paris trip) and was wondering what other casual dining options I will have? Are there ethnic restaurants that will be open? Anything in China Town? I'm not looking for a Christmas Dinner, just some place to go.

Thanks!

Au Pied du cochon is open 24/7 and was open last Christmas. Here's a link:

http://www.pieddecochon.com/

It's in central Paris-traditional French brasserie-food is just ok, though they get a few roick stars in who are pulling all nighters

The Asian places are a good idea and a good shot, though I don't know the answer. You night Google up 5 or 6 and give them a call when you get there.

I just got this e-mail from Fauchon:

Nos magasins place de la Madeleine vous accueillent
les dimanches 24 et 31 décembre de 9 heures à 20 heures

I would consider going to Fauchon, buying some main courses, sides, desserts, and a bottle of Champagne and enjoy a Christmas Eve dinner in your hotel room. Just a thought.

FWIW, we've found lots of odd schedules next week. One restaurant we tried (Chez Georges on Rue du Mail) was closed on Saturday the 30th, but open on the 27th. Another, Le Fin Gourmet, was closed on the 26th, but were happy to take us for the 30th. I would just suggest calling ahead, since schedules are all sort of out of whack.

In Paris, all stores will be open on Dec. 26. Some museums are closed on Tuesdays.
If you can read French, you can buy the magazine 'Pariscope', which gives all information needed on theaters, concerts, museums.
I will be in Paris from Dec. 27.

So will we, for a few days. Will there be a lot of loose FT'ers floating around this week?

They tend to be kind of loose no matter which city they're in! :)
