Georges: A Rant

I don't post here very often and try to stay positive, but recently returned from a disastrous trip to Paris thanks to this place and wanted to warn anyone who may consider going here. I had been once before and considered it cool, but below average foodwise, so I was none too excited when some friends told me they had made reservations for us here, since I was in Paris to eat. I had the foie gras/mango appetizer and the lobster macaroni. Both were borderline awful...hard to believe we were in France.

The next day, one of us became sick (vomiting and diarrhea). Several hours later, I did too. We were both flat on our backs in bed and miserable for two days. The only thing we had in eaten in common during the trip was the same appetizer at Georges. Destroyed New Year's Eve and killed two nights out at other restaurants.

Yeah, the view is great, but the place doesn't even seem cool any longer. More like a big, glassed in cafeteria with a DJ. And food poisoning at a place like this is just way unacceptable.

Really sorry you had such a horrible experience at Georges. I was there in early Dec. 05, ordered the Chateaubriand and mashed potatoes and loved them. Did you call and tell them what happened?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I live about a block away part-time, and the general advice is to go there for drinks and the view, but do not stay for the overrated and overpriced dinners.
Go to the tiny, less status conscious Le Hanger on the Impasse Berthaud down the street for terrific foie gras dining. I've never had a bad experience there.

Totally agree.

I wondered about this place. Thanks for the recommendation!

However, they only take cash---not even cheques, there.
