In the 6th not 7th, but you might find the Hotel Ferrandi to be suitable.

The Ferrandi is a small (30-40 rooms), low-key, 3* place on a quiet but interesting street (art galleries, tea shops, etc) between the Montparnasse tower and the Bon Marche department store near St Germain des Pres. The rooms I've seen are ok-size for Paris, though bathrooms can be small.

Not in 7th area but 1st, accross the Louvre is L'hotel de la Place du Louvre charming hotel (only 20 rooms so book weeks ahead and even WL!) each with the name of a paintor.
Always recommend it to friends or relatives who need a convenient hotel to discover Paris:
- Line 1, Louvre Rivoli Station,
- Some of the rooms with view of the Louvre Museum,
- many bus lines near by to take you to Boulevard Haussmann (Printemps and Galeries Lafayettes) for shopping - only 4 stops and bus every 5mn.
- a 5mn walk thru Pont Neuf bridge to 6th and St Germain des Pres/Odeon/St Michel.
Part of a hotel chain, with other properties also in 6th.

Doubles are 123 and bigger doubles 143 euros (recommended), top floor duplex are 153, all well appointed and newly renovated bathrooms (either showers or bath tubes).

Hope it helps,

Hotel Champ de Mars and Hotel Muguet are two hotels in the 7th that are commonly recommended on Fodors and elsewhere. I don't know anything else about them, except I think they are 2* hotels, not 3*.

One caution about Ferrandi, its at the not congested end of rue cherche-midi, so cars and motos scream up it, so if you end up on the cherche-midi side and you are a light sleeper, you'll be sorry.

We stayed at the Hotel Jardin de l'odeon on rue casmir delavigne in September and were quite pleased. We upgraded on line to a superior double for 120 euros and received a suite type room with a lovely terrace. After a dissapointing few nights at the Park Hyatt, this was quite a bit nicer. We have booked again for December. They have some pretty good deals on their website and its a nice quiet location. Its quite close to the Odeon metro.

Hotel Jardins du Luxembourg

http://www.travel-in-paris.com/jardi...rg/english.htm is my favorite 3-star boutique hotel in Paris. In a lot of ways it should be 4-star. But the best thing is the price is always €135 no matter when you book it. The neighborhood in the 5th is great and they have Wi-Fi in rooms on the 4th and 5th floors.

thanks for all the great tips - we ar eleaning towards the hotel de la Place du Louvre or its sister Hotel D'Orsay...

is it me or are prices WAY up form last year? Or is Xmas just a cheaper time than Tksgiving? We were at Relais Bosquet last Dec 24-29 for 90 euro/night for a superior room with breakfast - - now they are at 120 euro for a basic room and no bkfast.

Seeing similar prices at all these places. Is Xmas the much cheaper time to go?

Thanks!

Re:Paris hotels

See if the hotel has a fixed rate US dollar rate. A number of Paris hotels are doing that to attract American clients. These rates are often quite attractive in comparison to the normal euro rate converted to dollars.

Has anyone seen or stayed in the one bdrm apt that is offered by the Relais Bouquet? Would love to try the hotel but there will be 3 of us and the apt. looks(of course) adorable from the photos online and the price is right.
