Relais de Venise wins hands down. The Metro is Porte Maillot. You come up under a convention center and head for the little train station and another restaurant with copper pots hanging on it just north of the center.
The restaurant Relais de Venise is across the street. No reservations. People start lining up shortly before 7 PM when it opens. The menu is simple---salad, steak/frites. You have the choice of beverages, desserts, and whether you'll take coffee. Secret steak sauce. Great frites. And. . . they come back and serve seconds. Inexpensive, as well. Oh boy oh boy am I glad I made note of this post before I went over recently - this place was great! There was a line which moved slowly - but it was totally worth it. The steak is a thin steak, with a sauce (as best as we could figure) made up of a coarse mustard, olive oil, and a ton of garlic. The price was just about 25 euro, I think. Wine and dessert extra. I would make this a must-eat stop during my next trip.

Sounds yummy! I may just have to try it out next week!

Mrs. USAFAN & I know L'Entrecote since at least 15 years, and go there every time when we are in Paris. They also have 2 red wines, 1 Bordeaux and 1 Burgundy. And about 20 desserts. However, only one delicious main dish.
They had also one in Bordeaux and one in Marseille at the small port, may be they still have.

Mrs. M2swim and I may try it this Saturday night on a mileage run from TUL. After a day of shopping before we get back on the plane on Sunday, we may want a predictable meal. I will let everybody know an OKIE's opinion of the place.

We were just at L'Entrecote 2 weeks ago, as it is one of my husband's favorites and it was very good. But I would be interested to hear an opinion from anyone who has been to both L'Entrecote and Relais de Venise -- which is better for Steak/Frite?

The restaurand I am talking about is "L'Entrecote/Relais de Venise" and it is near Porte Maillot. Where is "your" L'Entrecote??

The L'Entrecote I was referring to is in the 8th I think. I believe it is a knock-off of the original but everything sounds the same -- people lining up, menu, etc. I was just wondering if the original is better.

Just wanted to revive this thread. The Relais de Venise at Porte Maillot is still fantastic !!!

About how much did dinner cost for you? Thanks!

With our wine, it was about 40 Euros per person.

Oh yes it is ! However, queueing is part of the game...

Thanks to a recent NY Times article, I am looking at Restaurant Bar Severo in the 14eme for a one-course Saturday lunch of steak/frites in a few weeks time.

Does anyone have any experiences? I'm not looking for a blowout, just a swift-ish main course and 1/2 bottle of wine!
