Travel in Corsica

Hi. I am eyeing booking flights to Corsica in September. My imagination conjures quaint beaches, sleepy villages and rugged landscapes. Has anyone here been there? What can you recommend? Is South side more picturesque that the North? Any specific places/experiences that are worth visiting/trying? Thanks for any and all suggestions!
