If you do not have too much luggage, then the best way is RER and metro or one of the shuttles and Metro.

I used UBER multiple times in September and early October because I was relocating giant luggage around the city. One of those trips was to the airport, and I had 2 pieces of extremely heavy check-in luggage, but I never took it the other way around. It would have been the flat rate for Rive Gauche to CDG, but I asked the driver to turn back because I left a coat, so it was more than the flat rate.

I speak some French, but I am not so good when speaking on the phone. One of my trips was from Gare de Lyon, and there was some confusion about the pick-up location. The driver didn't understand English or my French. Some of the other drivers spoke good English, and they told me that they really enjoyed the American riders because they were more likely to engage in conversation with them.

We will be bringing 2 large suitcases and 2 carry on suitcases. Since it will be cold we have to pack long sleeves and jackets.

Even though I have only had great service with Uber France, THIS is going to make me think twice before I use them again, and yes I will contact Uber Paris about it:

Wow. Just wow. Bad enough on its own, but in the taxi industry? Who on earth thought this would be a good idea*?

*Well, apart from "lonely male", that is.

Not sure if this has been answered in another thread, and please forgive me if this sounds stupid, but how does Uber work if I live in LA and land in Paris without cell reception? Isn't the app based on your cell phone/data connectivity?

I'd like to use this for my trip to Paris next week, but don't want to rely on something that won't be usable.

There is free wifi at CDG, so you can order an Uber car using the app. However the drivers usually call you to arrange a meeting point... maybe call them using Skype to avoid roaming charges.

Texting works, also. It's the method I use.

Not sure of your cell phone company, but ATT has some good package deals if you want/ need to use your phone in France. But even if you don't want to do any type of pre-paid plan, the going rate for voice calls is $1.50/minute. Usually the calls from Uber drivers (or Le Cab) last about 1-2 min max, so only $3. Not too bad for instant confirmation that the driver is there.

Has anyone used Uber in Paris recently?

There was a lot of buzz in the press late last year that the government was going to ban the service in 2015. Then they were apparently given a reprieve -- but for an undetermined period of time.

My trip to Paris is in early June, and I'm trying to determine if I should sign up for - or count on - the Uber service to get around town in the evening, to and from my hotel to restaurants.

Input?

Yes have used them and they are much better than their US counterpart. Last night to be exact.

Uber POP was banned though you can still see them occasionally available on the Uber app. I am not sure what insurance protection a rider would have if he were involved in an accident using Uber POP.

A friend left for CDG this morning using the normal Uber service. He paid 85€; about 30% higher than I have ever paid a taxi over the same route.
