Do you have affiliation or status with any of the chains, or are you looking only for independents?
Have you considered renting an apartment? My son has stayed in one of the paris perfect dot com ones and we have used VRBO several times.

Our top number is 500 Euro/night. Please don't use that as your basis for your recommendations, though. I would like to look at a bunch of different places. If you know of a great place that is 150/night please don't not recommend it because our top number is 500. We want something very romantic and distinctly Paris. If that is 480 Euro/night or 115 Euro/night, it doesn't matter.

OK, on the low end, but still quite romantic and well located near the Latin Quarter is http://www.les-jardins-du-luxembourg.com/ I think the low end rooms go for €135.
If you want IHG points, the Holiday Inn has two hotels near the LQ. The HI St. Germain and the new stylish HI Notre Dame which is a very short walk to all the places discussed here. Just on the other side of the river, past the Eiffel Tower, is the Lord Baltimore hotel. http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...is/index.shtml I think this hotel is very romantic and more Parisien. Get a Deluxe room or suite. It's right in the middle of your price range, leaving you extra money for a nice dinner with Champagne. :) There are lots of nice restaurants that you can find just walking down the little streets. I can recommend Alcazar (also known as A-Z) and Ze Kitchen, both of which are favored by locals, but also well suited to Americans. Be sure to make a reservation. |

I am a recent convert to the Four Seasons but the George V, while beautiful, is extremely expensive. If they had a deal for stay two get one or stay three get one then I would consider spending the extra and staying there. As they don't, I can't justify spending that amount of money on a hotel. I have not thought about an apartment. Might be something to consider. |
stimpy- Thanks for the suggestions. I will look at both of those hotels. Would you mind if I PM you if I have some specific questions?

Take a look at Hotel Recamier. It was one of the hotels that was featured in this month's France magazine in an article on the most romantic hotels in Paris. It was recently redone and it is in a great location tucked into a little area next to St Sulpice church on the left bank. I haven't stayed there but did check it out once.
I can't remember the names of the other hotels mentioned in this month's France Magazine but they all looked wonderful. One of the other names was Hotel Kleber I think. See if you can find the magazine. I read it at Borders. Bobette |

My wife and I are going. She is 29 and I am 30. It is the first time in Paris for either of us.
I appreciate all the helpful posts. I have spent probably 20 hours of research since the other day when we bought the tickets on a whim because of the great sale price. Does anyone have a suggestion for a really romantic hotel? Like I said, DavidO gave us some suggestions and I have looked at tripadvisor for other thoughts. I would love some advice from others for a great hotel. Thank you all for your contributions and help trying to make our first trip special. http://www.hotel-des-academies.com/uk/index.php |
Hotel Saint Andres des Arts... been staying there 10 years.. right next to the famous 5 corners of rues Buci, Mazarine, Dauphine & St. Andre des Artes... simple but clean.. 75 euros for single, 95 euros for double (one bed)... not sure of the two bed or 3 & 4 bed cost but very reasonable, given it's great location..

Hotel Abbatial St. Germain, farther into the 5 arr. on Blvd St. Germain at r. des Bernardines. it's across from a beautiful old church...and on the street leading down to the back side of Notre Dame and the bridge to Ille St. Louis. nice hotel, friendly staff, quiet location...lots of local residents, great metro access, decently priced. we had a room on the 5th floor (by request) overlooking nearby rooftops and Notre Dame in the distance. small room, clean, balcony (standing room only), small fridge, ac if needed. worked great for Mrs jacknyoc and me...we really like that part of Paris quiet a bit and usually always stay in that area. there are several local restaurants, cafes, bars in the immediate area. we would definitely stay there on our next trip to Paris.

Hotel Select is a beautiful design hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter, at Sorbonne. It overlooks a little pedestrian square so traffic noise wouldn't be a problem for sure. It is only a short walk from the Seine and Notre Dame in one direction, the Luxembourg Garden another way or the Pantheon. I haven't stayed there but have visited friends who did and I was very impressed with the interior. Didn't see the rooms, but my friends were raving about it.
