Quick dash to Paris - advice needed please
Mrs Oxtailsoup is 120 TP's short of Silver so I've decided to book MAN-LHR-CDG return netting the 120 TP's as a surprise trip in early December.
This will be our first trip to Paris and CDG airport. We will arrive on Saturday at 15:10 and depart on Sunday at 14:45. I am planning to stay at one of the Radisson Blue hotels (using points). Anyone know the best? What is the best way to travel from CDG into Paris? Is it easy? Now the BIG question! I'm looking for restaurant recommendations. I don't want anything too stuffy but I do want a really good meal in nice surroundings - budget not really an issue but say around the £200 mark for both as a guide... but quite flexible on this. It does need to be somewhere we can get a reservation though in just over 4 weeks time! |
I always think the train and the tube is the best way to get around, but it can be very counter-intuitive for newbies
Only know restaurants in Versailles I am afraid. |
train is dead easy from CDG there is a website here http://europeforvisitors.com/paris/a.../paris-rer.htm
which even has photos |
Some reviews and so on here: http://www.paris-best-restaurants.co...estaurants.php
My favourite places in Paris however are the small, local places where you eat for little money and mix with the locals. Nameless eateries with couleur locale. |
My girlfirend and i had a lovely meal here ( L'ORANGERIE, 28 RUE SAINT LOUIS EN ILE, Paris - 01 46 33 93 98). It's romantic, has good food and good wine.
We also ate at here (La Table de Joel Robuchon, 16, Avenue bugeaud, Paris, 75016) which was also very good. Enjoy! |
I've provisionally booked the Radisson Blu Champs Elysées so that's the area we'll be staying in.
Thanks for the links so far. |
In case you want to consider staying in a slightly more interesting area I can recommend the Terrass Hotel.
|
The easiest way to get to the Champs Elysées from CDG is to take the RER (Line B) to Chatelet les Halles and change there for the yellow line (Line 1) and get off at either Concorde, Champs Elysées or FDR depending on where the Hotel is on the Elysées
Enjoy! |
The vicinity of Champs Elysees would be perfect for a first time trip to Paris. ^ Think of it as the Mayfair of Paris!
|
If you're into something with a little grande decor and you like train stations, this will fit into the £200 mark for food at Gare de Lyon: http://www.le-train-bleu.com/uk/
Some people will find it tacky/touristy, but I love the food and staff here! |

Arc De Triumph is 200m away according to TripAdvisor ^
I always feel this part of Paris will lead to a lot of walking without really seeing anything special. Montmartre is so much nicer... |

I only did "Evening in Paris" once, as a guest of a French Defence Sales guy ... we walked for bloody miles, and he hadn't got a clue where he was either, and our hotel was .... ... of course, FT and things like that didn't exist then. |
