luggage lockers in Selestat or Colmar?
 

We're planning to stay a night in Strasbourg, have lunch at the fabulous L'Auberge de l'Ill outside of Colmar, then continue on to Zurich. We're travelling mainly by train, which means we thought of train Strasbourg to Selestat, taxi to restaurant, taxi to Colmar and train to Zurich.

But we aren't sure what to do with our two roll-ons. Is it gauche to even consider asking if the restaurant can accomodate them during our meal? Otherwise does anyone know if there are luggage lockers anywhere in the vicinity? In a similar situation once in Alsace, a taxi driver offered to keep the bags in his car between taking us to train stations. Bad idea or possibility? Thanks.

The Haeberlins who run the Auberge de l'Ill are really nice down-to-earth folk, and whilst it may not be the most frequently asked question, I think they would not be offended if you asked if they could look after your cases during your meal. In addition, the same family run the Hôtel des Berges at the other side of the restaurant garden, and it might be possible for you to keep the cases at reception of the Hotel des Berges during your meal if the cloakroom arrangements at the Auberge de l'Ill are too restrictive.

Of course you could always spend the night at the Hôtel des Berges, and REALLY push the boat out!

Thank you for asking, Alsacienne, the lunch is actually not until September, I am just planning perhaps a bit obsessively!

I will say I dined once before at L'Auberge de l'lll and consider it probably the finest restaurant I've been to. Not only for the cuisine, which was absolutely sublime, but the setting and especially the service which was at once completely attentive, yet totally discreet and also warm and welcoming.

I will follow your suggestion and ask the restaurant when I confirm our reservation. Although the Hôtel des Berges sounds tempting...
