Reservations for visits to the Eiffel Tower

Some welcome news if you plan a visit the Eiffel Tower and also would like to avoid hour long waits in lines. A new reservation system has been introduced on their website, where you can reserve and prepay tickets for specific timeperiods of the day.^

You seem to be able to make reservations about a week ahead and choose between tickets to the second floor level or all the way to the top.

Thank you.
This just what I was looking for.

Do you have any other great webs sited to recommend? I will be visiting 26 December - 1 January.

great news... last time we stood in line for half an hour and a message came on the screen saying top level was closed... what a waste of half an hour, we decided it wasn't worth a visit anymore.

I just wanted to say thankyou for the info on the website. My husband and a friend went today and it was great. We were directed to a short line then allowed to get on the elevator promptly at our reservation time. Much better than waiting to buy a ticket then waiting in line to board the elevator.

One thing to bear in mind is that there are limits to the number of advance tickets available for purchase. It's not so much an issue now but I would imagine for those travelling during the summer months, it would be beneficial to book as early as is possible.

You could initially , when the reservation system was launched in December and its still an option in the French demo on the website. So perhaps this is just temporarily due to maintenance or something ?

Just found this info on the Eiffel website:

"The top floor of the Tower will be closed from January 4 until February 5, 2010 for maintenance. The other floors are open to visitors during this time."

Here is an email that I recieved from customer service from the Eiffel tower

Dear Sir,

You intend to visit the Eiffel Tower and we look forward to welcoming you.

Our website indicates as following : The top floor of the Tower will be closed from January 4th until February 5th, 2010 for maintenance. The other floors are open to visitors during this time.

This is the reason why you cannot make a booking for the summit on January 29th.

Remaining at your disposal for further information,

Best regards,

I played with this system just before Christmas when I first learned of it. At that point you could purchase a ticket for as little as 1 day in advance. You could not by same day tickets. So if you have access to a computer and printer while you are in Paris you can wait for a good weather forecast and buy for "tomorrow."

twice I got a reservation at the restaurant Jules Vernes for lunch, then went all the way to the top. Menu was like 25euros, food was average but the portions were more substantial than I thought it would be. Best part was that they had their own elevator (no waiting).

But that was a few years ago.

Got my tickets to the Eiffel Tower today, and was surprised by one thing in the terms: technically, for the ticket to be valid, it has to be printed on white A4 paper. Since most Americans don't have that lying around, it would be an issue. I am, however, counting on them accepting my ticket printed on white 8.5x11 paper.

When do you go? I'd like to hear about any problems you encounter with your tix. I'm stopping in Paris for 2 days at the end of my honeymoon as a surprise for my wife (early September). I'd like to take her to the top without having to wait in a long line.

We'll be there Monday at the beginning of our trip, so I'll be back to report in a few weeks.

Is it possible to take the stairs all the way to the top or at least to some mid level (and continue up the stairs)? I am planning on a trip in Sept and want to go to the top again. I don't mind the stairs if it will save a few euros.
