Smile Looking for FT's Help in Ending Blood Cancers

Hi all and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday! I just wanted to share the following with the FT community given the tradition of giving which I can appreciate and thankful to be a part of.

Intro
I am currently an executive board member for Society Ties, the young professionals group supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society chapter of NYC. For those who are not similar with the LLS, we are the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Each year, we put together various fundraising campaigns including, Light the Night, Man Woman of the Year, and Team in Training in order to raise funds for the next blood cancer cure. Together with the brilliant work of researchers and medical professionals, we have worked tirelessly to increase survival rates to over 60% (and over 80% for children) for leukemia patients from 14% in 1960. However, blood cancers are still the number three cause of death for Americans today and there is still much work to be done – I hope you consider supporting me in making Someday is Today!

Why Am I Involved?
I became involved with the Society Ties and the LLS shortly after donating bone marrow in April 2013. While I am certainly proud of the opportunity to make a change, I was also very moved by the experience and made me realize I needed to do more to make a positive impact on society, and hopefully give courage to others to sign up for the bone marrow registry, donate blood, and donate to the LLS. I am also thrilled to be a part of Society Ties, which is a group of dedicated young professionals, each with a special tie to the LLS cause, either as a survivor of blood cancer, or impacted by the lost of a loved one.

The Ask
I am reaching out to the FlyerTalk community to request support for our annual fundraising gala, Black Tie & Black Jack. Appropriately, we will be holding the event at the Intrepid Air & Space Museum on Saturday, February 11th, 2017. What we are looking for are:

- Event sponsors, which allows your company or organization access to our network of 10,000+ young professionals and medical staff across the New York metro area
- In-kind donations for the evening’s silent auction. We are open to nearly all sorts of donations and please do not be shy in considering a donation even if you are located outside of New York, we can certainly be creative in crafting a silent auction package to would be suitable.
- And naturally, you are all invited and welcome to attend our night of festivities, casino nights, music, dancing, and free-flowing libations

Please do not hesitate to send me a PM if you have any further questions or if you would like to make a contribution. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best,
Stan

Hi all - I just want to bump this thread because I am involved in a new LLS campaign which ends this Thursday at 7pm EDT. The Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign is a spirited fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. in which participants build fundraising teams to compete for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. They raise funds for LLS blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year.

This year, I am supporting my friend Sara Burack in her campaign for Woman of the Year and I am seeking FT's support in helping her win. Any donation amount would be truly appreciated - for example, the following amounts help:
- A mere $10 helps a researcher grows cells in a lab which will help him better understand how well a new blood cancer therapy might work
- $20 helps the LLS fund research to advance life saving treatments for blood cancers
- $50 helps LLS advocate for policies that improve blood cancer patients' access to care
- $150 funds general lab supplies for a week for researchers to find a cure
- $200 funds a research fellow for a day
- $300 funds one week of one-on-one and group support for families dealing with blood cancers

Thank you again all for your support, it is truly appreciated!
