20 August 2022: Heroes of Flight 93 Gala
Hello, Tom Bush here, president of The Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund. Denny Flanigan has asked me to reach out to you with information about our upcoming Gala supporting aspiring young aviators. Denny will be our Master of Ceremonies.
The Capt Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund, in coordination with the Leroy W. Homer, Jr Foundation, is conducting a fundraising event on August 20th in order to raise monies for aspiring pilots enrolled in four year aviation curriculums throughout the US. This event has been postponed once due to the Covid pandemic and will be held at the Gaylord Resort in a few weeks. Any participation, via direct donations or attendance at the event, will assist this fund to continue their quest to honor Capt Dahl by awarding annual scholarships to the "Best and brightest" aviation students.
This is an IRS recognized charitable 501(c)3 fund that has awarded $451,000 to 215 winners from 43 different schools since its inception in 2002. In 2022, we awarded $44,000 to 19 winners representing 11 different schools. All Dahl Fund board members are volunteers, there are no salaried employees and the Fund has minimal administrative expenses. All donations are tax deductible.
The guest speaker at the Gala is former F-16 pilot Heather "Lucky" Penney. On 9/11, she was one of two fighters sent to intercept United 93 but the hijackers downed the B-757 before they arrived. Her story is riveting.
There will also be a silent auction, including condos in Vail and Maui, international travel, United simulator ride certificates, a P-51 Mustang ride, and other flight experiences. Silent auction individual items will be available for viewing on the website below in early August.
