No more champagne...

Looks like Finnair is enhancing the business class service again.. Updates in services onboard Finnair flights starting on 19 April | Finnair Finland

Champagne is replaced with sparkling wine at least on SH business, they don't say anything on LH, but sparkling wine is excluded on PE.

Also no more pillows in Economy Class. That's quite a bummer to me. For me, leaning on the wall with (even a small) pillow is the best way to sleep in Economy.

We provide blankets for our Economy Class customers on long-haul flights, but pillows are no longer available. Many customers already travel with their own travel pillow, and on long-haul flights, the neck rest supports your head.

Im sure this is requested by customers by some questionaire like "would you rather have sparkling wine or lose your seat on the flight".

If I read this correctly, it also seems that they are enhancing short haul business class appetizers away, no?

“On longer flights, we provide a hot main meal, something sweet and beverages. Champagne is replaced by sparkling wine.“

First they proudly introduce the new PE and J with the new meal service. Not so long after that, they enhance everything, pillow by pillow, in every way they dare. Well, nobody’s really surprised here.

I can imagine Topi’s bean counter consultants at work, trying to find the cheapest kyykky shelf sustainable cava that has a Vivino rating above 3.

Im sure they have big stashes of vintage Elysee or Kavaljeeri somewhere. Those would be spot on for current AY. Not to mention Finnish origin.

Has AY mistakenly published their April fools' joke a couple of days too early. These enhancements are ridiculous.

I think taking away champagne is a huge mistake, it is part of the business class product "musts" in my opinion. This devalues the AY shorthaul product a lot, not because sparkling wine can't be great, but because it is suppose to be business class and champagne comes with travelling business, period.

only "positive" when reading the anouncement was that they actually said straight that this is a part of trying to become profitable again and didn't try the same old "based on customer feedback" or some other bullsh*t no one in their right mind would ever believe.

So the JP coming back on the Y menu was not "due to customer feedback" but for getting rid of the excess J stock as soon as possible.

Small alignments towards the SK short-haul service level, making the upcoming merger of SAS and Finnair easier. Nordic Airline Systems, conveniently abbreviated NAS.

For clarity, the source of the above is my head, nothing else.

To be a bit more on topic, maybe I reconsider my plan to exchange a lot of my points to keep plat status. Upgrades and free drinks are now worth less. On the other hand, I have been consuming red wine lately.

I'm thinking the same.

Something sweet will be this:

(only 1 served for sustainability).

Not sure😉

First they replaced JP to Catpiss because ”viinaa menee niin paljon”
Then they noticed with Catpiss ”viinaa ei mene enää”, so they thought ”customers have requested to replace catpiss with ””premium(aka kyykky) sparkling”.
But in the middle they had unused stock of JP so they brought them back for the reason of sustainability(=stock is bad), while they went procuring the next phase of kyykkysparklings

For english audience: ”kyykky” means bowing your knees to reach down to the lowest shelf items.
