Baggage interlined
Hi guys,
I have been doing some reading and it seems that Finnair would happily interline baggage even on two separate bookings as long as they are Finnair coded. I am flying back from BKK to ARN and need to then go to London. If I buy a Finnair coded flight to London, would they interline my baggage even if it's a codeshare flight on BA metal? Thanks |
Probably not. My understanding is it should be two AY flights. Both flight number and metal.

I got bags interlined on two separate bookings starting in HEL and second ticket from ARN. The ticket and metal on the first flight was AY and the second was AY ticket / BA metal. This happened in the summer of 2019.
The agent at check-in said that they don't usually do this but since the second ticket was AY she agreed to do it. So I wouldn't take this as a rule, just a single data point. |
Also, I guess agents in BKK will be reluctant to interline. The issue I have is that if they don't, I just need to stay the night in ARN.

OT: No problem with QR interlining MLE-DOH-HEL-KUO flown with 3 separate tickets (2 QR AY point redemptions and 3rd AY point redemption). With FIRST-tags ;). Something AY should aim at!

I've got two PNRs: one AY HEL-SIN and another PR SIN-MNL. I got a hard no from the agent on sending luggage straight to MNL. I'm pretty sure there's an interline agreemnt in theory but there's system limitations on printing tags on anything non OneWorld.
Would very much appreciate perspective and experiences. |

Latest know fact is that PR and AY has internline agreement, it has a few limitations but not the bags. There are publicly available documents showing all inteline partners and as of february 2017 PR was on the list.
Like mentioned above, it is not about the interline agreements. It is a oneworld decision to discourage the member airlines from checking bags to final if separate tickets, and AY is among the airlines that adheres to the recommendation in a military fashion. SIN and HKG are excellent airports and a remedy in this. OneWorld airlines' efforts to make life difficult for their customers are hampered by these excellent airports that just simply tracks and re-tags bags within their system. |
This is what EF lists AY interline for baggage:

I've done it at the transfer desk. Show bag tag and onwards tickets/boardingpasses. Then they'll intercept the bag, retag it and deliver new bag tag to the gate.
Not sure if they can (know when to) withhold bags inside the system or if they also do retrieve bags from conveyor belt in arrivals hall. But I've had trips from Australasia to Sweden/Denmark, on single AY ticket on AY-coded flights where agents have not been able to check to final. One case bags were only checked to HKG - here I don't know if it was withheld inside or if they fetched it from arrivals hall - and one case where agent managed to check bags to HEL but not CPH. (AY systems and/or competence was limited to 2 legs...). In both cases HKG transfer desk handled it without breaking a sweat. And one was a short connection and they sent a runner to the gate with new tags as boarding begun. |
Hi does anyone have experience of interlining/checkthrouh where AY booking is of Light/SuperLight type, meaning that I would be using OWE benefits to get checked bag free of charge? I might be flying TPE->HKG->HEL with two separate PNRs issued by CX and AY...
