Sounds quite harsh, any experiences on similar cases?
I asked about reroute for my flight AY98 (Jan 30th) at the time Finnair first notice given (around Jan 25th). I chat with AY from the live chat asking for reroute from Hong Kong on 26th, and AY said it is possible and it is free, as long as there would be place on the plane. That policy is for virus affected pax so even we had basic fare we would be rerouted for free. But in the end my better half refused to travel to Hong Kong so we gave up that option and used my original ticket. Can you try again wth different agent on the live chat? Sometimes they gave different answer. But AY policy might also changed from then on.

I had a good experience with AY! I was supposed to fly HEL to China next week and my ticket was canceled a few days ago. I had a separate ticket for HEL-OSL which I no longer needed since my trip went belly up. I called AY, explained the situation and asked if I could get a refund for the 2nd ticket as well. Agent took down my information and asked me to call back 2 days later. I did and they processed my refund for the HEL-OSL ticket as well.

I’m disappointed I didn’t get to fly AY (this would have been my first time) but would not hesitate to book with them again.

Question AY flights from HKG

Have a return flight SIN-HEL via HKG with CX to HKG then AY to HEL. Are AY allowing free route changes for HKG ?. Can I change to SIN-HEL direct for free if same class availabilty. Flight date ex SIN is 16 March.

HKG is still business as usual, AY also actively selling HKG tix (I was booking SIN-HEL, many options via HKG - or BKK - was offered, but I went for the direct service)

Yes as Wilco says HKG is business as usual at this moment in time, at least. Just today I booked to SIN and there was good (=wide open & cheaper) availabity via HKG with AY/CX combo so went for that on the outbound as arrival time wasnt too critical and CX J has never been too bad of an experience...not to mention their Flounges.

Keeping an eye on this thread. I'm on AY99 to HKG in late March (connecting onwards), and although I really like the CX lounges, if I can reroute via SIN, I get a ton more EQMs to AA, so I would totally do it if I could.

At this moment in time there are more confirmed patients and more rapid growth of cases in SIN than in HKG, difficult to know of course how realiable the numbers are but at this point cancelling HKG doesnt look any more likely than cancelling SIN.

Does this apply to all long hauls, or just DEL? Theyve closed one of the three toilets in J, the one next to door 2. A sign says its for crew use only.

So 2 lavs for 46 J pax. Must be among the worst ratios out there.

Not in response to anything, just an observation that I presume is due to the Chinese flu.

I'd not risk travelling or transiting through HK.
Governments seems to get crazy at the moment. And it could well be that government (if in Europe) announced that all arriving pax from HKG (incl. transit) have to be quarantined for 2 weeks in a school gym. And such announcement can be made on such a short term, that you only learn about it when you land, where you are being quarantined.

Ugh. I was on HEL HKG and my company just banned HKG travel.

Any chance AY would reroute to SIN instead? TA wants to send me on SQ FRASIN, but I need my OW miles ...

Sorry, but why would AY reroute you because of a company policy they have nothing to do with?

Its a fair point, but in the wider context we could very well see more government and carrier-imposed restrictions on HKG travel in the coming days anyway.

Take some solace in the fact that you are one of likely many thousands of people in this position, which could possibly result in changes being allowed on a goodwill/PR basis by AY & others, if not for absolute necessity.
