(not) cleared Upgrades

HEL-BUD-HEL return flights, for 2 pax (plat + gold)

Booked at T-93/T-113 (outbound/inbound)
Inbound had U9(!) in EF, so those upgrades have cleared w/ the online tool.
Time of upgrade request for outbound flight: T-93 (U0 => waitlist)
Upgrade instrument: Plat short haul vouchers
Request method: Call to Plat CS
Outbound upgrade cleared on T-85

Quite strange logic here. The inbound has now cleared (day -46), without any intervention from my side, the outbound is still pending. Both segments have J9/C9/D9/I9/U0, with very light loads in general. The inbound that did not clear yet has only 4 seats reserved in business, while the outbound that did clear has 7 seats reserved. Also economy classes have light loads both directions.

This is weird, must say. With that many days out, I dont think there is any much movement in terms of revenue mgmt so where does that robot needs that thinking time between few days 101-133??? While instead it would be a huge importance for a customer to know if upgrade cleara right away or not.
Bad design IMO

HEL-LHR-HEL some two months in advance on A350 both ways. The outbound leg had instant availability, inbound cleared in some 15 hours or so after the booking. Happy with the result, as previously one HEL-LHR on A350 was my only non-cleared upgrade as Plat.

HEL-NGO cleared 3 weeks before the flight, after a few days on the waitlist.

Funny, the seat now shows as "- Window seat". My profile preference is window seating (due to transport sickness), but no window seats are available in J...

Isn't that just imbecile?!

They have people on waitlist but decides to not give them the upgrade and instead publishes it back to U bucket, after everyone on waitlist have been removed?!?
I am struggling to see even how this scenario came about. Where was that U seat at T-37?

Did you call in to still have it waitlisted so it could potentially clear at the airport? Seems idiotic to suddenly release the U seat, I guess they want to experiment if elites are tracking space before departure.

Or, they would like to sell the upgrade with cash with the huge billboards saying "Business Class upgrades for sale" and maybe someone will take that bait -> profit. Whereas points are nowaways more problematic, vouchers are freebies for AY hence letting them expire and gain revenue from cash upgrades, AY wins vs. business seat taken by AY Elite with the voucher.

This has happened to me several times now. Got bumped off list, finally cleared an upgrade at checkin or gate and found out that there was even empty seat(s) in J onboard!!!!
