Does AY protect separate bookings?

1. OW Sapphires do get 1 free checked bag and free advanced seat assignment with Light fares (excluding economy comfort seats). I don't believe the way you book matters, but I'm not sure (the links below suggest it doesn't matter, as long as it's Oneworld-marketed). Unless there's a good reason not to, however, I'd book it as a Finnair flight.

2. Regarding luggage storage, there are lockers at HEL that you can use, which cost 5 or 6 EUR for the day. The non-Schengen business lounge had free lockers as of earlier this year (not sure if they're still there post-renovation). Not sure about the Schengen lounge.
3. The train into the city is super easy, and I've done quick trips into the city on long layovers. Sunday morning is extremely quiet, though, in my experience.
