I believe AY and HX has a general interline agreement and with that, there is technically no limit on checking in (including INF and group travellers) and checking bags to final on any AY-HX combo. I don't think the agreement excludes certain destinations per se. If they'll chose to use it on any connection is another thing. And as always, it needs to be on one ticket.
The interline agreement, at least as it were per early 2018, includes usual services with the notable exclusion of EMD SSR (Special Service Requst inside an Electronic Miscellaneous Document).
For instance, they might *) not be able to accept / charge extra bags at airport for each other.
*) I'm only speaking from reading documents, not from any personal experience.

HO schedule is now officially published, daily B787-9 starting end of June:
HO1607 PVG 00:55 – HEL 06:20
HO1608 HEL 14:20 – PVG 04:20(+1)
ITA has the fare at 919€, even higher than AY (but seems cheaper in the opposite direction).

I'm starting to wonder whether the idea behind this schedule is to make a shortish fifth freedom tag flight from HEL to, perhaps, ARN, CPH, TXL or something similar. After all, HEL is their first longhaul flight. They could get two European destinations with just one flight if they had a tag flight from HEL. Maybe they haven't gotten the traffic rights just yet and are therefore not mentioning it, or maybe it's just a long-term aim.

I don't really follow. Arriving early morning in PVG enables downtown business by 9am anywhere in town - something that's not possible with Finnair's schedule. It also enables transfer to early morning HO domestic flights.
In the other direction, the schedule is comparable to Finnair's red-eye from other Asian destinations, such as SIN and HKG.
What I don't get is letting the plane 8 hours in HEL - unless the plan is to continue within Europe as ffay005 guesses.

Well, my thought is that you're at the terminal gate outside by latest 5:30, in Pudong or on the Bund by 7 am latest - after a long flight, with no shower, no shave no lounge, nothing. What are you going to do? You might get lucky with a very early check-in in your hotel or you have to pay at least the day-use rate if they have such.
HEL-bound - I'm not a fan of the AY midnight departures from HKG/SIN either, this is one hour later, getting into "crazy Middle-East departure times" territory, which I hate from the bottom of my heart.

I might use it.
If travelling to Shanghai it would mean being in the hotel 6.30, perfect for a shower and breakfast.
If travelling to other cities it would mean arriving there before 10. With AY it typically means arriving around noon and on separate tickets. The connecting flight I miss once in a while.
Travelling to Helsinki, from Shanghai be on the Bund until 9 PM isn't that bad. If from another city, no need to stay overnight at an airport hotel to wake up at 7 AM.

But man, everytime arriving in CN tired as F, too short to sleep
- Cant check in hotel, sometimes i just pay extra night to get room.
- Cant really go straight to work because with AY arrival fit well with morning traffic rush hour. you'd be in the city 10-11am ish. so you are missing half day, if you still have energy to continue the rest half.
- AY departure is always morning, so im forced to stay another night after finish up the business
HO time is not that horrible, but i think its better than AYs especially arriving in PVG. (dont really care about coming back hahha)
- There are still many hour left for the day, easier to justify to pay extra night if you want to rest
- Can rush to office and not missing anything, as there is no traffic
- Leave Shanghai/pek same night when work is done

Isnt that a case by case thing, like the new OW hangaround status, where it is decided separately for each new airline?

Several privileges for A* Gold, but no word about points: Juneyao - Start Alliance connecting partner
Neither here: Connecting partner

They also clearly say benefits eligibility requires connection between them and a *A airline flight. So I assume pure HEL flight won't qualify for any. Which is said, though.

For work, I don't like night flights. For vacation, I sure do, on the way back - saves one day.
