Business class to Thailand questions

Hi considering Finnair next Feb to Thailand, LHR-HEL-BKK and return. Having done some searching there are a few things I would like to confirm, so any info would be welcome. How good/bad is the A330 hard and soft product, the seating is rather strange but considering 2 seats on the RHS, single window seats, how is the food/drinks. How are the Lounges, and at BKK can we use other Oneworld lounges with just our boarding cards, thinking of Cathy Pacific in particular. At HEL are all flights served by bus's or only some. Assume luggage is transferred through HEL but will LHR issue boarding passes for both flights outbound. Thanks in advance for any reply.

You can use the JL or CX lounges in BKK. In all likelihood, you will have a normal gate at HEL, i.e. no buses, but this can't be guaranteed. Luggage is transferred, and LHR will issue BPs to your final destination.

A330 hard product is good, although it is showing signs of age. In respect of the hard and soft product, it probably makes sense to google for trip reports to get a better understanding.

Not so fast - if OP has no OW status, than no CX or JL lounge for him. AY uses the Plaza lounges for C pax in BKK

Hi Thanks so far. Have looked on the OW site, linked from Finnair to find the following, so it looks like there is access to CX lounge at BKK. "Access: Business Class / First Class / Sapphire Tier / Emerald Tier" so is that true ?

This is not correct

OP will get access to all the lounges, given flying J.

As a J OW passenger, one is entitled to use any of the J OneWorld lounges. So, in this case OP will have access to Plaza (by default), as well as the CX, JL, and even the QR lounges. One can even lounge-hop. This is one of the best things about OneWorld.

On the contrary, one would not be entitled to use certain lounges being only an elite and not flying J/F. One such case would be the QR lounges, including the one in BKK.

However, all of the OW lounges in BKK have limited opening hours. The CX and QR lounges are open before the departure of AY 142, the JL lounge before the departure of AY 144.

Thanks so far again. Re CX access, I would have a J class boarding pass so according to the OW Site would have access to CX & JL irrespective of any status in any program, is that correct ?

The text is verbatim " Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status."
Some reads this as acess to any J loune while other reads this as acess to a J loune.

Read it here https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access and judge for yourself.

Yup that is where I was looking. It states..."If your oneworld® frequent flyer tier status is Emerald or Sapphire, or you are traveling in a First or Business Class cabin on any oneworld member airline, you can access some 650 airport lounges throughout the world." so just trying to check that that is what people have experienced at this location. Thanks so far...

That is correct, provided that the oneworld lounge is open. As said by @r2d2, JAL lounge should be open in time for both AY flights, whilst the CX lounge will be open for the morning AY flight (and closed during the departure of the night flight).

access to any business lounge as long as it is operated by a oneworld airline. This also allows one to use and change between lounges (aka lounge hopping), should one wish.

i can confirm this to be the case based on personal experience in a variety of locations.

We have had this discussion like a million times and there are plenty of people who have personal experience of being declined access to oneworld lounges, and directed to what is on the invite or the contract lounge of their airline.

Each to their own. But telling people with certainty that they will have access to any OW lounge is setting them up for disapointment.

I don't think people should be adjusting their expectations to align with someone notcomplying with the rules.

https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-...eaccess/BKK/-1

For BKK, as you can see, under the name of each Oneworld operated lounge, it says,

Access for eligible customers traveling on any oneworld member airline.
The OP should have access to any oneworld lounge, provided that it is open, and does not have any further restrictions (e.g the BA Concorde Rooms). A Finnair/Oneworld Business Class boarding pass should thus, be enough to grant entry.

If anything, any declined access to these lounges are acts of non-compliance on the lounge dragon’s part, as these are the oneworld rules, and the OP is eligible for entry.

Furthermore, given the OP’s interest on the Cathay Pacific lounge, the following is the access rule to Cathay Lounges as presented on the Cathay Pacific website:

Oneworld Business Class passengers are eligible to use the Cathay Pacific Departure Business Class lounges.
