Earning miles on SB flight (AY code share)?

I have a flight coming up from NRT - NOU in J (bought on AY's web site) and back to KIX, so I wonder what kind of miles I will earn for this flight?

I believe the AY+ tier bonus miles are only available on AY operated flights so should I count on getting the additional bonus miles on the SB flight or not?

Again, all is under the same PNR (GVA-HEL-NRT-NOU//NOU-KIX-HEL-GVA all in J) as purchased through finnair.com and the calculator doesn't give me aircalin (SB) as an option, so I used Finnair.

I just had a soft landing to Silver (happened end of November) so if I get the 10% additional I will get back to Gold in a blink as the return trip will earn me 80'000+ miles...

AY tier bonus applies to all AY-marketed flights, as far as I am aware.

How to compute flight earnings to Finnair Plus program?

Award points are earned as the product of the three following parameters rounded down to an integer:
  1. Tier bonus:
    • If the flight is not marketed by Finnair:
      • 100% always (i.e. no bonus).
    • If the flight is marketed by Finnair, it depends on the customer tier:
      • 100%: Basic
      • 110%: Silver
      • 115%: Gold
      • 125%: Platinum
  2. Fare bonus:
    • If the flight is not marketed by Finnair:
      • according to booking class (see table on Finnair site, too long to quote here)
    • If the flight is marketed by Finnair:
      • 0%: Economy award (X) or Business award (U)
      • 25%: Campaign fare (W code), Group fare (G code), or Aggregator fare(?) (A code)
      • 50%: Light fare, Basic fare, or R, Z, O, Q, S, N, L or V codes unless Value fare basis(see note below)
      • 100%: Value fare, T, P, M or K codes
      • 150%: Pro, H, B or Y codes
      • 200%: Business, I, J, C, D codes
  3. Base points:
    • If the flight is marketed and operated by Finnair:
      • 1000 points: within Finland, Norway, Sweden, Danemark and/or Baltic countries
      • 2000 points: within Europe (including Russia) otherwise, or between Europe and Middle-East
      • 8000 points: between Europe and elsewhere (i.e. long-haul)
    • Otherwise, if the flight is marketed by Finnair:
      • Base points equal the distance in kilometers.
    • Otherwise, if the flight is marketed by a Oneworld carrier and operated by a Oneworld carrier:
      • Base points equal the distance in kilometers.
    • Otherwise, if the flight is both marketed and marketed by a qualifying Finnair partner (AS, FI, or domestic TF at the time of writing):
      • Base points equal the distance in kilometers.
    • Otherwise zero.
  4. Tier points are computed from the award points as follows:
    • Same as award points if the flight is marketed by Finnair.
    • Same as award points if the flight is marketed by a Oneworld carrier and operated by a Oneworld carrier.
    • Zero otherwise.
    • NOTE: Special award points promotions are excluded.
  5. Qualifying segments are computed from the tier points as follows:
    • One qualifying segment if the tier points are non-zero.
    • No qualifying segments if the tier points are zero.
Note 1: AY booking codes R through V can earn either 50% or 100%. If the fare basis says "VA" in the 2-3 or 3-4 letters, then the fare is treated as Value and the factor is 100%. Otherwise, factor is 50%.

P.S.: Some airlines are known to credit a minimum of 750 base points for short flights (AA, CX, KA, ???). This is not an official policy however.

Feel free to debug this and make a proper wiki article out of it.

Confirming what Courmisch has so eloquently already stated: You will earn tier points on AY marketed flights operated by random carriers - I've earned points flying Sh*tstar (JQ) for instance.
And as a side-note QF loves to give me a platry 188 (one hundred and eighty-eight) tier points for lowest fare MEL-SYD flights :D

Excellent...

Thanks a mill for the confirmation Courmisch & juhanh for taking your time answering my query. Highly appreciated indeed.
I will hit Gold again after this one trip (I only have tiny 1'600 status miles earned so far this year) which means AY+ Gold for close to 2 years as my tier runs from Dec - Nov...

Wish you all a Merry Christmas (where ever in the world you may be) and a happy new flying year

So I guess QF also gives a minimum 750 base points, whereby their booking code would earn 25% ?

Would be nice to have a list of which airlines do and don't do that... but getting OT.

Bolding mine. Is that a new addition to vocabulary? Paltry = "whopping" 188 points; "Platry"= the same for a Plat member

Spelling has been enhanced.

So, interesting turn of events...

I sent AY a mail claiming the missing NRT-NOU//NOU-KIX miles and got the following response:

Hello and thank you for contacting us.

Aircalin (SB) is not Finnair Plus partner therefore we can not credit points for these flights.
On our web site, www.finnair.com you can find the latest information about Finnair and Finnair Plus partners.

Best wishes

I may very well be off here, but I bought the flights on one PNR through finnair.com (same booking ref for all flights) and now I'm told there are no miles to be credited???

What puzzles me is that my better half have the following on the AY app:

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4c68a1e4ff.jpg

So what do I do at this point?

I'm very well aware that SB is not an OW airline, but the flight was sold to me as part of a package from Finnair and the app is telling us the miles will be posted soon...

Any pointers/views/recommendations?

PS. Never has it taken so long to get an answer from AY+ before so wonder if this answer was rushed?

Jainzar Jan 17, 2018 11:55 pm

When I search on the AY website I only get flights with SB flight number to NOU. To my understandling that means the flights are not marketed by AY. If they are marketed by AY they should have an AY flight number.

lkrt Jan 18, 2018 12:59 am

Only if the flight number was AYXXX it earns something, which appears is not the case here.

The app says "points for the eligible flights will be added... –", so it is technically correct.

Cupart Jan 18, 2018 1:41 am

Thanks for the clarification...

ranskis Jan 18, 2018 4:27 am

I am not sure AY code shares with SB, it is more likely a ticket with several carriers, like HEL AY TYO SB NOU in which case TYO NOU does not earn miles on AY but should earn miles on Flying Blue.

Indeed. Besides, that message in the app seems to be totally automated and in my experience has nothing to do with the fact whether you will get the points eventually (even for eligible flights).

It is indeed. It is time controlled and appears at a preset time after trip ended. Has nothing to do with pending transactions in the AY+ account.

There are plenty of itineraries that can lead to non-Oneworld flights on Finnair.com, especially (but not only) to destinations that Finnair does not serve or not regularly so.

What matters is the marketing code of the flight. If it is "AY", you earn to tier and award points to AY+, regardless of operating carrier.
