Flexibility of codeshares
I typically avoid codeshares, but I am now booked on one. I am at Koh Samui where the weather is horrible and the forecast looks like it will continue. I'm booked on Saturday on a AY marketed, PG operated Value fare with booking class H. Or that's what the eticket says. The fare basis starts with a R. (RHVA2FI).
I'd like to fly out asap. New tickets for the family cost 1000€+ so that's not an option. But how does it work with codeshares and the flexibility that Value tickets give, and could the H be interpreted as a Pro ticket for even more flexibility? Or am I stuck in this storm for another 2 days? |
Well, the question is a bit void now as the airport has closed down due to the weather. The dream holiday has turned into a nightmare.

Outs. I looked at webcam from Lamai Street and it looks like Helsinki in October.
I don't have answers about flexibility but this was a great reminder that domestic tickets must buy separately and never connect them to long haul tickets so You can make new plans and avoid nightmares. |

But look on the bright side - some quality time with the family within the confines of a hotel room/lounge. (just trying to be supportive...) |

Luckily we're on an all inclusive so I can drown the sorrows in Singha and plan the upcoming two days in Singapore. |

Commiserations.

Unfortunately I don't have any answers to the flexibility issues either, but on behalf of all your AY+ FT members I would like to cheer up your miserable day with this: |
As far as I have understood correctly and remember the guideline, fare basis would be read as the following;
RHVA2FI: - Booking class (R) - High season (H) - Fare family Value (VA) - Round-trip (2) - Country code (FI) So you would have Value ticket which typically is possible to be changed with a fee depending on whether there is space in the same booking class (otherwise need to be upgraded to next available booking class). Of course, doesn't help if there are no flights at all currently. |
I may not be able to help with the initial question, I just like to say that this is what I love with FT and FT'ers:

I'd like to fly out asap. ... I booked Japan over christmas and later realised it would be terrible to stay alone over new years. Found a CZ ticket to Australia on a whim and got a tan included in the price! |
Thanks for all the love and support. Plat service replied fast and said that all flights from the island are very full, as I also checked on Ita Matrix. 'll stay according to original plan, and make sure I get good use of the F lounges in Singapore on Monday as compensation to myself.

Hmm, I thought I had read somewhere that both BA and Qantas had F sections, but looking at Oneworld.com I might be mistaken. Well, I've never been in a Qantas lounge so new experience anyways.

Seems at least the tabloids have noticed the heavy rains. We heard the airport was running sort of normal today, so I have high hopes we can fly tomorrow. Now I just need to find a PG booking reference. The AY reference didn't allow for checking in online.
|
Posting some learning notes.
Online check-in doesn't work on PG codeshares. Ticket must be issued by PG for their online check-in to work. PG has a different booking reference. It took two calls to Finnair Plat service before they found it. Didn't help, though. Lots of delays still at USM, but since we couldn't do online check-in, we have to be there according to original departure time. Will be a long day at the airport. |
I am flying to USM via BKK on Wednesday. Eventhough the weather should clear by then, I am contemplating on cancelling the trip. Or to be honest, I would have cancelled already, if I hadn't, like a dumbass, booked a non-refundable hotel. Cancelling would mean almost 2k€ down the drain...
Well atleast the hotel is nice so we can sit inside and drink beer, if the weather is abysmal the whole week. |
