why not but AY plat is much more worth than EBD. Same goes for AYG much better than EBG (unless you raid Senator lounges all the time)

I missed a flight due to illness and therefore I was a noshow on a Light ticket.
Yesterday I contacted chat and asked for a refund of unused taxes. Their response was “There is no refund of your ticket as you have a Light/non refundable ticket”
I said that I was requesting a refund of unused TAXES, not of the fare and I asked if they could check with the other department about this.
she said: “There is no refund of the taxes.”
When I said that I am almost sure that unused taxes are always refundable with the exceptions of a few types of taxes, and asked again to have it checked by an other department I got the reply:
”No, you have a non refundable ticket. There is no refund. Thank you, have a nice day.”
holy wows. Am I right? Or is the beachy CS correct?

I think you are right. Collecting taxes and not sending them to government would be tax fraud.

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV. That being said searching around results in some interesting results. One way to interpret this is that the tax applies to the sale itself, not the act of transportation. Regardless, the taxes go to the tax authorities, the airline does not keep them even if you did not take the flight. So if you are entitled to a refund is one question, but you would have to ask the tax authorities, not the airline, for a refund.
My understanding from a quick look on the internet. Hopefully someone with actual knowledge can jump in.

The main issue is that AY charges 50€ for the refund. I'm quite sure there was a ruling by a high EU court in a similar case last year (?) that this is not ok. Maybe someone with more detailed knowledge can give more details.
