Safe - Immediate turnaround is easy, i.e. according to experience it is possible to reach departure gate quickly and without extra security check when doing same plane turnaround.
Intermediate - Immediate turnaround is doable, but requires e.g. extra security check.
Risky - Immediate turnaround not recommended. (See notes.)

TO KEEP THE WIKI AS COHERENT AS POSSIBLE, PLEASE USE "SAFE", "INTERMEDIATE" OR "RISKY" APPROPRIATELY! (I.e. no "Safe" for stations that require any kind of security or transfer check, not to mention going landside, etc.)

Immediate turnaround information for European AY destinations:

ACE: ?
AGP: Safe (Arrivals pour directly to departure gate.) Details here from August 2022

KTT: ?
KUO: Intermediate (Exit via baggage claim and reclear security, but should be doable if you exit among the first from the inbound flight.)
LHR: Intermediate (Need to go via Flight Connections to reclear security, which may take time depending on the time of the day.)

VRN: ?
WAW: Safe (Arrivals pour to departure gate.)
ZRH: Safe (When exiting the bridge, you are under the gates and there are inclined speedwalks that bring back to the gates upstairs.)

Immediate turnaround information for selected longhaul AY destinations:

DEL: Intermediate (There's plenty of time for the obligatory visit to the transit desk and security. However, you'll need a self-printed visa confirmation to show the gate agent at HEL.)
DOH: ?
DXB: Intermediate (Follow "connections" to security downstairs and after that go to transfer desk if needed.)
JFK: Intermediate (Generous time with the new schedule, but you'll need to clear US immigration so ESTA or visa is needed.)
NRT: Intermediate (OLCI and mobile BP works, no need to go landside. There's transfer security, though.)

The accrual calculator is working very on and off and I can't seem to get any reply from it to my current points issue. I'm thinking of doing HEL-JFK-LHR-HEL in J (I), but I can't seem to get any answer from the calculator at all to how many points that would accrue.

I just wish they'd do something to their IT...

Seems a temporary hiccup... Does not currently work for me either.

If I put a simple itinerary, say HEL-AMS-HEL with AY J, it immediately shows the correct amount of points. When I switch to a more complex itinerary, i.e. more connections, it just keeps saying "Please wait". I've had these same problems with the calculator for a long long time.

http://www.finnair.com/fi/fi/finnair...ual-calculator seems to work now, leg by leg or by feeding in all the legs at once, as long as all the flights are AY coded...

HEL-JFK in AY I: basic 15000, silver 16500, gold 17250, plat 18750
JFK-LHR in "AY" I: basic 11253, silver 12241, gold 12797, plat 13910
LHR-HEL in AY I: basic 4000, silver 4400, gold 4600, plat 5000

Thanks, it seems to work for now, as long as one doesn't put BA-coded segments there. I must continue to work on the itinerary...

Borrowing the thread: What's the cheapest option for an AY flight from HEL to anywhere, with:
  • return on the same day with a layover of 3-6 hours
  • decent lounge at the destination

OSL maybe?

From HEL, it must be ARN

If your purpose is just to qualify some legs cheaply, you might consider adding 2 dollars more and just book BA to LHR daytrip for 100€ish and sit more comfortable in Emerald lounges

If you are happy with same-plane turnarounds, WAW, PRG and BUD are usually cheap and very doable. As you'd be under 60 mins on the ground, the lounge options are not that important (and not that stellar either)

With BUD I take the 9:30 out and by 15:00 I'm back to HEL (WAW is shorter by an hour or more)

I was looking for options with more layover time than that. Is there a list of AY destinations with more than one flight per day?

I'm traveling with a friend with no status (yet). Does BA give lounge access to a friend for OWE's?

Most (non-leisure) European destinations have at least two flights per day, as per the Finnair bank systems.

You can take one guest to F lounge (OWE) or J lounge (OWE/OWS) provided the guest travels on a Oneworld flight on the same day.

ARN and OSL lounges are horrible. LHR is probably the most realistic.

I'm only guessing that all these same plane returns are booked on separate return tix (positioning flights?), cause otherwise wouldn't you run into AY's horrible "business" ticket prices?

Indeed they are.

(though at least ARN sometimes has same day turnaround at decent prices)

Absolutely - finish your first longhaul in BUD and start your next one on the flight back to HEL.

The very first one of course can be a simple cheap return, with the inbound leg way out in the future (or to close the cycle of longhauls)

I'm very tempted to buy the JFK deal in J.

I've had it with the accrual calculator so I wanted to ask you. What is the best way to maximize AY+ points? Do I go with AY-coded flights or is AA or BA better?
