Yeah, that's correct. You can just add your name to the wiki post on top.

Silly question - does Teos accept credit card or do I need to get euros?

I thought Gnopps was buying?

Seriously though - all bars and restaurants accept CCs here, though perhaps not AX or DC. But us FTers only go to cashback / point places, right??

Haha, yes I meant:
".. or does he need to get a lot of euros"

Yeah, I thought so, but better ask. I was pretty sure they wouldn't accept the left-over Wons and Yuans I'm carrying.

I´d love to join, but as my wife is on a work trip, it means I have 2 boys, aged 3 and 5 to look after this whole week. By next monday I´m most likely dead tired. Have fun.

I am in Helsinki on the night of Oct 9 on my way back to Canada....would be cool to meet some Finnish FT'ers. I used to live in Joensuu when a child....many years ago now but still like stopping in Finland if I have a chance. Hope your Meet-up goes well.

I think it went very well! Thanks to everyone who participated, it was nice to meet you all and be able to attach faces to names on the screen. (Teos was a good choice for a place too.) Topics covered included (but were not limited to) mileage runs, AY's pricing and upgrading strategies, Japan, lounges, Macau, Conrads, AMEX, Hong Kong, AA (the airline), Amadeus, snus and restaurants/food.

And congratulations to OH-LGG for attaining the AY Plat status again the hard way, i.e. with segments!

Hi!

It was really nice meeting you yesterday! I hope the evening continued well also without me and I’m sorry I had to leave when the person of honour arrived  I was good though as my daughter woke up at 03 and stayed awake for 2 hours..

We discussed my upcoming night in Bangkok and I’d like some help from you. I’m travelling with a friend who hasn’t travelled much. We will arrive in the afternoon and leave the next morning, so budget is limited to about $90 after the $50 Expedia-coupon I’m planning to use. Below I’ve listed what seems to be our best options (Oct 4-5), which one would you recommend? Luxury & experience is more important than location.

Park Plaza Sukhumvit - $18 – (with Silver)
Pullman King Power - $46 - (with Platinum)
Pullman G - $48 - (with Platinum)
Millennium Hilton - $55 (with Gold)
MGallery VIE - $57 (with Platinum)
Swissotel Nai Lert Park – Executive room - $62
Le Meridien - $81
Royal Orchird Sheraton - $71
Sofitel Sukhumvit - $87 (with Platinum)

Think I'm leaning towards Sofitel.

...or perhaps I'd rather post on the Thailand-forum :-)

Probably they are more knowledgable over there.

I have experience with the IC (excellent, but overpriced for BKK) and the Millenium Hilton. The Hilton is a better location for tourism, but as you are just overnighting, the IC is better (nearer the airport) - and in general the IC is a better property. As a Hilton Gold I got an upgraded room + lounge on a paid stay.

I doubt that you could go wrong with a Meridien or Pullman, though

Yeah, it was a great meet! Nice to meet in person, and a casual set up that worked well. Let's keep this thread (or another similar set up) for future meet-ups. We did missed other FT'ers (or at least the explanations for your handles ) so hopefully we can do another meeting later.

As for organization, it was a joint effort. I only got the ball rolling by starting the thread. So thanks to everyone for showing up and sharing stories. ^
I came late to the party, but compensated by talking too fast and too much

I got a good 3,5 hours sleep before getting "back in the race". Running for gate 14 (it is a bit of a stretch to call that Terminal 2..) worked up the appetite, and yes, they served the nice omelette and sausage breakfast on AY661 to CPH. For some reason though, I decided to go light on the champagne this morning.

And OH-LGG, what can I say... Renewing status by segment. A true feat. They should add a 25% bonus even for segments.

Elite benefits do not when booked through an opaque travel agent such as Expedia.

I've only stayed in Club rooms and Prestige Suites at the Sofitel Sukhumvit. It's a really nice hotel with great staff. The difference between a club room and a regular room (actually, "Luxury" vs "deluxe" afaik) comes down to better toiletries - hèrmes instead of something more generic.

About the other properties:
Park Plaza - don't know it
Pullman King Power - bad location
Pullman G - refurbished ex-Sofitel Silom. Should be OK, not too far from Le Méridien
Millennium Hilton - terrible location
MGallery VIE - haven't stayed there
Swissotel Nai Lert - several f&b issues
Le Méridien - great hardware and staff, location boils down to personal preference
Royal Orchid Sheraton - I don't like this place
Sofitel Sukhumvit - the best location

Thank you all, it really was a fun evening! It was great sharing war stories and getting new ideas too

We really should make this a tradition, maybe a new evening later this fall?

remymartin, what was the restaurant you recommended in Hong Kong? Planning my late August trip

I agree!

vulle, the restaurant I recommended is called Bo Innovation, located in Wan Chai. It's a modern fusion Chinese restaurant which received its second star a few years ago.
