Help with expiring 40K Finnair + points?

Hello!
I just "found" 40480 Finnair plus points in my and my sister's accounts , completely forgot about them..
14720 of those points are expiring in 2 month, rest soon after that too..
I am unlikely to be able to use them for flights in next 2 month..
Could somebody please give me any ideas how to get any value out of them ? Can I transfer them to any other Hotel or Airline program?
Thank you very much in advance!
P.S. I am located in New York

The best would be to transfer the points into a single account (within family it should be possible for a nominal amount of money) and book an award flight or a long-haul upgrade. 45000 points would be required for a JFK-HEL upgrade, so you might want to have some flights posted to your AY+ account in the next weeks to top it up.

You do not have to take the flights within the validity of the points, you only have to use the points (i.e. book award flights or upgrades) by that time. It is generally possible to book flights almost a year out.

Points are valid for five (5) years, beginning on the date of the flight or service concerned, and any awards booked for redemption with them must be made before they expire. From 1 February 2010, points will be valid for three (3) years from the date of the transaction. The award they will be used for must be reserved within this time. Unused points that have expired are cancelled automatically. Expiration dates for points and any points due to expire are found on the Internet. Finnair is not obliged to remind members of points due to expire separately.

If flights ruled out, also possible to use the points for shopping, Finnair PlusShop has some quality stuff:

The obvious thing would be to use them for upgrades/redemptions.

The advice re combining them is sound - for 20€ they'll transfer the points from one account to another. Note that the owner of the donating account must call to initiate the transfer.

Other meaningful usage of the points is very rare - they don't seem to carry Rimowa anymore on the online shop - one could use cash+points to get one.

The only hotel redemption outside FI seems to be this

"Your Finnair Plus points can be used for award stays at Scandic Hotels in Finland, Scandinavia, the Baltic countries, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands. A Finnair Plus award voucher entitles you to spend one night at weekends (Fri-Sun) in a double room at Scandic hotels. On weekdays, you need two vouchers. "

Yeah, right, 60.000 points for a 100€ hotel room :td:

To the OP: if you cannot book anything useful as a Classic Award (40000 will really not get you anything out of Northern Europe/Finland), you can still use points for an Any Seat Award, i.e. to pay part of the price of any ticket booked through finnair.com by AY+points. It may not be the best usage, but can still be better if the other option is letting the points expire.

Chongqing, China

If you plan a trip to Helsinki, take a ferry (2-3 hour) to Tallinn, capital of Estonia. Book here https://laevapiletid.ee/ (also in english). But maybe NYC-TLL-NYC is same price or cheaper than NYC-HEL-NYC. And from Tallinn you can fly to Finnair's new destination Chongqing in China for 5000 points + 199 EUR. Look http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/finna...tinations.html and book https://www.finnair.com/EE/GB/offers

I used my expiring points for the restaurant voucher. As I checked there is something available also in NY.
