I stayed there several years ago, but they've undergone renovation since then and I've been trying to get to N.O. for a look (and to see the new WWII museum). The location is wonderful.

My girlfriend (now fiancee) and I stayed there 2 years ago. We were upgraded to a fantastic suite (Simon Boulivar) as a Presidents Club Gold. The best part was that it was on the Valentines/President's Day/Mardi Gras weekend -- the place made a fantastic impression on both of us. The woman at the President's Club desk said she had been holding a suite for a President's Club member, and was happy to give it to us. The suite was HUGE. No one could believe our luck given the fact that the town was booked solid. They made us total fans of the Fairmonts and have been loyal ever since. The location is very covenient to the French Quarter, but somewhat removed. I didn't visit the restaurants, but the service was great. I'd recommend the place highly.

My wife and I stayed there about two years ago. It started out as one of the worst stays and ended up being one of the best. We checked in about 4 pm - room not ready, so we wandered around the French Quarter for about an hour. When we came back, we were given our keys and headed up to our room.

Once off the elevator it was a very long walk around several corridors. Finally reached the room and when we entered, we were very disappointed. First, it was one of the smallest rooms I've ever seen. There was barely enough room between the bed and the dresser to walk by. The "view" out the window was the roof of an adjacent building with all the noisy ventilation equipment as our scenery.

Then the worst. We walked into the bathroom and it had not been cleaned at all. I won't go into all the disgusting details, but it was absolutely gross. We called the front desk and they offered to put us in another room, which was a little better - at least it was clean.

The next morning we spoke with the concierge about what had happened. She disappeared for a few minutes and returned with some new keys. She apologized profusely and escorted us to a great suite. She also gave us a stack of drink coupons and told us to call her if we needed anything else.

The remaining three nights in the hotel were excellent.

I've stayed there several times over the past few years and have always been upgraded to a suite. It's a perfect location and the staff is great.

I used to live in NOLA and go back on business several times each year. Believe me when I say, you can do better than the old tired Fairmont. Don't know when you plan to vist the Crazy Crescent or if you need a room for 1 person or the family, but there are a number of excellant hotels in the same area as the Fairmont. My top choices would be the LePavillon on Poydras (very ellegant at a reasonable price), Le Meridien on Canal (old world charm), the relatively new Wyndham Whitney on Poydras and the InterContinental on St. Charles & Poydras (very nice but more a businessman's hotel). Also consider the Chateau Sonesta and the new Iberville Suites in the Quarter (if a family outing) and of course the Wyndham Riverfront. All of these hotels are excellant choices copmpared to the Fairmont and at least during August, room rates are less than $100 per night. If you just want a good clean room at a major brand hotel, check out the Hilton Garden Inn on Peters. It's about a block or two from the Convention Center and Riverwalk Mall. Rooms have a small frig and microwave.

Hope that helps.

Fairmont New Orleans residential suite ??

Just used an upgrade for a future stay and was given a Residential Suite ($195/night). Description on the website and from the helpful phone agent sounded nice.

Any reviews? Only one turned up in a search

It forwards you to the Fairmont site, so it definitely counts towards a stay-credit.

Summer is not the best time for New Orleans, but the food is always great -and I hear there are some other fun things going on.

Great hotel and great location, it's just so old. The rooms badly need an overhaul.

Yes, I agree it is a bit old, but, as you say, they offer good food, and great service too- and the price is right!

I agree, the hotel could use some work but when I stayed there last I was upgraded to a huge suite with very high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and a nice, modern bathroom. Very nice ^
