Any idea what Fairmont will allow?
Officially, only Platinum members can redeem any kind of certs for their immediate family; otherwise certs are non-transferrable.

Whether or not you may get away with redeeming them for someone else will dpeend on many factors, but you may want to be aware that the hotel could charge you the full rack rate if you failed to check in yourself.

Thanks Jasper. Sounds like the only option worth entertaining would be the "staycation, same night as us." Our current reservation is under my wife's name. I could book and check-in myself to the second room. Wonder if it's best to keep mum about friends using the other room, or to add their names as guests. Thing is, they'd want a King bed I'm guessing; so that could be awkward...

If this piece of info is of any help -

You can actually check in 48 hrs in advance at Fairmont hotel (i think it's all Fairmont properties) - you will receive an email on this. I think this allows them to assign rooms accordingly, and my impression (could be wrong) is that you can also get first dibs on the good room.

This also mean, that you will receive a code (forget, I think it is a QR code or some sort), and you can use this code on your cell phone to scan at your room door handle, enter your room directly WITHOUT needing to check in at front desk. You can also check out by dropping the key in mail box WITHOUT going to front desk.

I didnt do this myself - but I know this is an option bc the hotel told me I can do all these without even needing to interact with them.

So, this could be an option to think about.

Sometimes you can do quick check in and get your room key from the valet. But you could be in a bind if they don't have the key and the front desk wants ID.

Thanks gnomey and nock. gnomey, I don't see a QR code scanner on the door at the Fairmont Kea Lani. Wonder if the Boston location has them.

Actually i think i misspoke. The QR reader is somewhere in the lobby. You scan there and pick up the room card.

This is the email I got, titled "Your Room is Ready! Gnomey!", with the following image inside

Doc7.pdf

Sorry, dont know how to attach image properly

For those people who didn't immediately get the free night posted, has it posted subsequently? I was told in writing by Chase that I had earned it and that it had been posted to my Fairmont account, but it has not.

We are in the same boat-- have not received any certificates into our Fairmont account yet. Both spent $12k prior to the date. We allowed the Fairmont card to convert to CSP but did not renew it upon the new year's annual fee being due since we already had CSP cards that we pay fees for (cycle was up in Sept and October 2017). Chase has told us we qualified but nothing posting so far.

Well, I guess it is 10 weeks now? If Chase is saying you qualified, I suggest calling Fairmont... Poor Fairmont Visa rep is gonna get a lot of calls.... especially if her understanding of the agreement is different than what Chase communicated.

I cancelled my card and have yet to see my night pop up in Fairmont even though i met the spend requirements.

My wife didn't cancel hers and got her free night.

Are people calling Fairmont or calling Chase? And has anyone who's called in actually gotten the night credited to the account?

I called Fairmont and explained the situation-- that we had qualified by spending the 12k, that Chase confirmed we were eligible and our accounts had been marked to receive the certificate. The Fairmont rep basically said they had received all the information already from Chase, they no longer have a relationship with them (even though on a previous call I was told to wait until the end of the month as they were still being input into the system), that they were not going to be awarding anymore certificates and that I needed to take it up with Chase. Not very pleased with how Fairmont is handling this-- it's as though they just don't want to deal with the probably numerous people who are calling about this. I called Chase back and they said they would escalate to Marketing and call me back this week. She again assured me that I was absolutely entitled to the certificate and my account was clearly marked and that information had been sent to Fairmont. Nothing so far.

I had emailed Fairmont about my concerns, and after several days, they responded, and gave me a number to contact Chase. I doubt I will have any luck. My issue is that I stopped spending on the card after I hit $7k, because I was told no matter how much more I spent, the cert would expire in February. Now, people are getting certs good until October. Maybe I can get them to match my other cert, which expires in June, but I doubt it. Fairmont doesn't seem to want to cooperate at all, and I doubt Chase can change cert expiration dates.

While I certainly am unaware as to the business relationship between Chase and Fairmont, I would surmise that Chase compensates Fairmont for the free nights, and is therefore the driving entity behind the free night certificates. I could be absolutely incorrect, but given my hypothesize, I honestly can't blame Fairmont for simply not awarding a free night certificate if they haven't been notified by Chase to do so.

My feeling is that any complaints regarding the free night need to go through Chase. Have the letter from Chase in front of you so that you can quote whatever language was not honored.

Here is what I received from Chase in response to my inquiry why the night hadn't posted:

Thank you for contacting Chase regarding the complimentary
night certificate for the Chase Sapphire Preferred account
ending in XXXX. I will be happy to review your inquiry.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this has
caused.

After review, we confirmed you spent over $12,000 in net
purchases by August 14, 2017. This qualifies you to
receive the certificate for meeting the $12,000 spend that
you can redeem up to one year after the date we issue it.

Robert, I have asked an Escalation Specialist to review
your request and contact you once the review has been
completed. You can expect a response from us by mail in
ten to fourteen business days.

Thank you for your patience while the review is completed.

Sounds like maybe a data issue... more data still coming in or being input?
Maybe a simple count by Chase of how many qualified and Fairmont counting how many they issued will highlight the gap.

However, if there is still disagreement between Chase and Fairmont as to the qualification rules, that's a whole 'nother story...
