2016 AMEX FHR - Banff and Jasper benefit - Lunch or Dinner for Two

In the 2016 Amex FHR Directory, it shows a new benefit that I think could be a fantastic value, if it is the same dinner perk as the "Local Dinner for Two" certificate.

http://www.finehotelsresortsdigital....2&pg=129#pg129

It shows a complimentary lunch or dinner for two, exuding alcohol, tax, grat. If this is a full meal (appy, entree, desert), this is a great deal.

Will report back when I use it, but likely won't be until fall.

This isn't a new benefit, but it is a good one. They may provide a fixed menu, or a much smaller menu for this benefit, it would be interesting to find out how they handle this.

One thing that's not always clear, but even if you're traveling alone, the 2 people for dinner (and breakfast too) still applies. If you have a friend in town or bump into in the hotel, you can use the free meal for them.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was $100 F+B credit last year, but I must have been mistaken. Look forward to using it!

It does sound like an interesting deal. What is the applicable rate? Is it full BAR? Deposit required, or flexible?

AMEX FHR almost always matches lowest available rate. It is fully flexibile. It comes with all of the perks listed, but you are required to have the Amex Plat to book it.

Maybe a good deal off-season or a short stay. However, I think the CAA/AAA rate will work out better in most cases, since that's a 30% discount at Banff Springs. During the summer, even the Fairmont rooms offer at around $600 BAR. The CAA rate would represent a nightly savings $180, and more on higher category rooms and suites. One dinner + daily breakfast might not be enough. Still, it's worth considering.

Lowest available flexible rate perhaps but more often than not i see prepaid rates being meaningfully lower. On one night stays fhr is usually better with all added perks...

Yes, Lowest flexible rate, NOT lowest prepaid rate. Thanks for clarifying.
